We used to go to lunch during the week fairly often. I loved it. Mostly because I don’t have enough evening weekend time to socialize.
I know a lot of the old lunch crew have left town. That can’t mean we can’t do it again.
I favor meeting at either Metro Center, or L’Enfant Plaza, which have the most possible metro connections, but I can be talked into something else. I also favor Thursday’s or Wednesdays, since I can come then. I pretty much don’t care where we eat, but it needs to have enough seating for half a dozen dopers to be able to just come in for lunch.
I can be there from 11 to 1, or even later. Earlier is not happening, for me.
Once a month or so is even cool, but what the heck, even once only is better than nothing. In fact, even a bring lunch to the park thing is cool for me. Make, or buy something, and we can bring a blanket, or whatever.
Here’s the original DC Lunch Bunch thread. I was a relative latecomer, and sadly, am obviously not able to make it. From the regulars that I recall, I think only RTFirefly and myself are still around.
I suppose someone who knows the area should choose. No fast food, please.
Metro Center.
11:00 Next Thursday. (The 18th. Or, tomorrow, if you guys are up late and going to work too.) Meet outside at the 12th street entrance. I have a sign that says, “Will Debate for Food” and will have it with me.
Lunch should be fairly near the ten buck level but I can splurge for really good food.
Who is up for tomorrow? Yeah, ok, who is up for the 18th.
I can’t be a regular, but it would be fun to join you some time. I used to work near Metro Center, but now I’m out in Anne Arundel County so it’s a bit more of a trek, obviously.
I think a monthly lunchly would be cool. It looks like next Thursday is on.
Sometimes is better than never, Mama Tiger!
I doubt that RT Firefly will be coming, since he lives way the heck far away now. I Think Wendell Wagoner still works in the the Great Hot Air Industry somewhere.
Anyway, after the first tension filled day, it seems that there is enough interest. I’ll bump the thread in a few days, to be sure we got everyone’s attention, if it falls off the edge of the world. I will ask a mod if monthly resurrections or cloning by the light of each new moon are preferable.
Yeah. A month early in your case! Yuk yuk, I kill me.
I could be convinced to make it later, or, Wednesday, too, or both. Everyone come up with the most likely time and day, and if it’s Wed, or Thurs, I can come too.
I’m in Arlington on Thursdays, and I could definitely pop over. Not sure what this Thursday will bring yet (October is always full of surprises) but if I’m in DC I’ll show up.
Thursday is best for me, and I’m ok with 11:00. By the time we find a place and actually start eating, it’ll be 11:30 which is my usual lunch hour anyway. That will also allow us to get a jump on the crowds and find a place with some seating. I am thinking of the outside seating area next to Cosi on the corner of 12th and G. It’s right at the top of the metro escalator entrance, and across from a PayLess shoe store.
I’ll keep an eye on this thread, but am not sure when I’ll be able to make it – I’m in the midst of my busiest season right now, which combined with assorted travel is making it hard for me to get away from my desk for more than an hour at a stretch. And from here to Metro Center is a full hour each way. Plus I have a bunch of former coworkers I’ve been meaning to get together with for lunch for a full year now, so you’re not the only lunch bunch in my queue. But I’ll make it one of these days!
Okay, me, at the top of the escalator, holding a sign that says “Will debate for food” at 11:00 AM, Thursday. Will hang around for a while, then adjourn to a restaurant, where eating and drinking, as well as some level of . . . MPSIMSing will ensue.
For those not making it this time, have no fear, next time we will discuss on line where to meet, so that laggards and stragglers can find us. (I would do so now, but I have no clue where such a place might be.)
I assure all others that neither the exact time, nor the precise day need be set in stone. If you want a different day, speak up. If lunch for you starts at noon, yell about it. If you would rather have a windblown picnic at Farragut Square, . . . uh, have fun.
Sorry. Major crisis at the office on Wednesday, and Thursday was an all-day mop-up/postmortem. I was in the office until amost midnight. Excuses, excuses, excuses.
I will put this on my calendar so I’ll get a reminder next time and hopefully be there.
