hey, i made a guest account a long time ago (about a year) and i was hooked on the straight dope ever since. i just want to get alot off my chest and post something a little bit about me. so im 17 and im a high school student in ottawa, i found the straight dope when i googled a particular question which for the life of me cant remember what it was and anyway i came to this site. i was hooked instantly and created a guest membership and posted a few questions. anyway when my trial ran out i couldnt really afford to buy myself a real membership because other than the hydro bills and food i basically support myself with a part time job in a bakery. i didnt have alot of money to go around so buying a subscription was at the bottom of my priority list but i still kept around to read alot of the forum posted by all of you in my spare time(which is limited but i still like to find time for the straight dope!). im really involved with my school, ive been in every play and musical production and im really looking forward to getting the lead in our new musical this year, annie(no, im not going for the role annie, but that would be hilarious since im 6’1"). i also started the first gay straight student alliance at our school( we have a big muslim population so harrassment is a big deal for a lot of gay students) im not gay, but i got fed up with they way how our administation handled harrassment so with the support of a few teachers created the GSSA in an effort to create a safe place for those students(i had to fund alot of stuff out of my own pocket, but its what i would want my money to go to). i could go on but it would take a long time to post what my ambitions are. so anyways back to the staight dope, i was really surprised and happy when i heard that the straight dope was turning to a free post program in the summer(even though it took until labour day to get it working:D) so im really looking forward to fighting ignorance for now on. especially my own:p

One word of advice, it’s going to be to your best advantage to work on the grammar and capitalization. It really is a big part of the board culture to write properly and some people will be less forgiving about it then others.

Thanks for the advice! I did read alot of threads where they flamed people for just that thing. I usually do use proper grammar, but i kind of just threw this thread together because I was Multi-tasking with writing an english essay for school. I’d be sure to keep my grammar hat on though:p. i havent used the term grammar hat since grade 5… god i feel old:D

Nope, there are a few people under your age. Last I checked, Captain_Carrot (or maybe there’s no underscore, or it’s captain_c or something, I can’t remember right now) had the record at 13. Someone compiled a graph of doper ages at some point. Someone else may be along to dig it up for you.
