When I read the original thread it struck me as a pretty silly racial/national jab, but meh. I’m not sure that I’d have (or you would have) had the same response if it was something about BP and the comment was “From the same folks who brought the world, British dentistry, now we’ve got British deep sea oil extraction.”

The ‘yellow peril’ line makes me think the original bit was a bit more racist than racial in intent, however. But still, being an 88’er is a pretty far cry from simply having some racist sentiments.
