Hey, I Know That Guy!

A guy I went to high school with is making his Major League debut with the Detroit Tigers tonight as the starting pitcher. I remember Andy VanHekken (5-0. 2.55 ERA for Triple-A Toledo) as a quiet guy who had enough friends to not be considered a “loner,” but he didn’t quite fall into the “popular” (read: obnoxious asshole) crowd.

I don’t remember playing baseball against him, seeing as how I never did any organized sports in high school, but I remember in a middle school pick-up basketball game, I schooled him on how to make a drive in the paint. GO ME!

Anyway, he’s about to start any minute now, so I’d better give him my support. Send the good vibes to the park in Detroit!

Go “Beans”!

Hmm, “quiet guy”, but not a loner. I guess he only has about a 50% chance of becoming a serial killer

And what a debut! A complete game, 8 hit shutout. SD vibes must work wonders.

He got a pretty warm reception on Baseball Tonight, too. Multiple shots of his family cheering him on in the stands, in-depth remarks about his personal and professional history.
