Hey It's National Dog Day

Purely coincidental but we just got ourselves a new dog yesterday from the Anti-Cruelty society. It was a whirlwind few days for Delilah as she came up to Chicago from Oklahoma, got to the pound on Saturday where we first saw her (and my wife and I began cyber stalking her…), she got fixed on Monday and we got her on Tuesday. She’s still a little trepidatious but she’s peed on three rugs already so she’s got that going for her, which is nice.

So here’s to all you dog rescuers and good pet owners. I raise a glass to you.

The dog days are over
The dog days are done
The horses are coming
So you better run
(Damn, that sounded better when I was singing it in the shower)

That link is not a picture of Delilah!

Here’s a pic.

Ooops, wrong pic.

Here’s to you as well! Delilah is a little cutie!

in honor of National Dog Day here’s a pic of my old girl

IG, good for you. Shelter dogs try harder–heck, she had to drive up to Chicago from OK.

Many happy years bending to your new overlord.

I would totally name that dog Large Marge.

Aww! That tail is just a happy blur!

This is our Lilith. She is sick and won’t be with us much longer, but while she is, every day is Dog Day.

ohhh she is a pretty girl. Is she a dobey with natural ears?

I’m really sorry to hear that, DB. Spoil her like crazy!

Yes, and thank you!

burpo, she’s been spoiled since day one. When we found out she was sick it went into overdrive! She rules us with an iron paw, and we feel lucky in our servitude.

It’s pretty obvious from my screen name that it’s a party day at MY place.

I don’t have pictures here at work of my canine triumvirate, but I’m going to salute them here anyway.

Rocky, retired bird dog, 11 years old and still going, cancer surviver, and my biggest baby

Pepsi, foundling, 5 years old, bossy bullfrog, tattles on her brothers, and is my staunch defender

Daragan, 1.5 years old, devil child dog, gorgeous redhead, still a work in progress

Love you guys so much.

In honor of all the dogs gone before, here is a quote from literary dog lover, Albert Payson Terhune:

Soon or late, every dog’s master’s memory becomes a graveyard; peopled by wistful little furry ghosts that creep back unbidden, at times, to a semblance of their olden lives.

Happy Dog Day, everyone!!

I’ll join in with a kind of update.

Some of you may have read my thread back in November 14 when I adopted Mollie.

Here is a puppy pic of Mollie at about 5 weeks old

Well, here she is now.

And again here.

I was so curious what kind of mutt she was, I did the DNA analysis thing. They say 3 main breeds in her are Chow, Collie, and SharPei. Chow I can see, muzzle shape, black hair, and black spotted tongue. Collie (as in Lassie kind) I can see in her coat pattern and tail shape, as well as the touch of gray color on rear legs. SharPei I don’t see at all.

But she is a super happy, loving pound rescue baby! Happy Dog day, everyone!!

I followed my doggies around all day with a camera. But not really a camera, it was my iPod Touch that has no front-facing camera (like, a real camera) just a self-facing camera and no flash. So I got a lot of shitty pics of my dogs, but they ended up making a decent Facebook album.

Here’s some good ones…
Morgan in the car
Grady and Morgan on their walk
Fighting

We didn’t do anything fun or unusual today. Grady went to school. Thursdays we go to doggy beach so we’ll be doing that tomorrow.

I did a DNA test on Morgan. Says 50% pit bull, 25% yellow lab and 25% pure mutt. Doesn’t look like a pittie to me - she “passes” lol

Grady looks like Mollie, but less fuzzy. I need to get him tested. I bet he’s part chow too.

I’m feeling a little down today too because it’s this time last year that I was rapidly losing my Dolly (just like **leftfield6 **lost his pooch). So I am having flashbacks of when she was sick and missing her. But it was nice to see all my friends’ dogs on FB today - some people never post pics of their dogs. AS IF!!!

Ah yes. I’ve read it suggested (seriously, not metaphorically) that humans aspire to have the moral code of dogs. Not that we do, but that we’d like to.

Here’s to ours:

Sweet Simone, nine years old and getting a little wobbly. Special needs, but a wonderful personality. She likes to sleep in the sun, but she can still get revved up for a hike.

Diamond, our project. About 16 months, all enthusiasm and teeth and no judgment whatsoever. Pulled from a public shelter on her kill date, now sacked out on the couch.

Oh my god, that picture is hilarious!

Yesterday was a good dog day for us. Breck (-enridge) had been in training for 3 weeks while we took a couple of vacations and we finally got him back after first going through training ourselves in his new commands. It’s an impressive transformation, he was always eager to please but now many of the directives are automatic, he just knows when to heel, sit, lay down etc in addition to leave it, place, etc.

Here he was as a wee puppy. And here at 5 1/2 months he’s ‘taking my kid to school’ today.

Yay, dogs! Here’s my 11-year-old Greyhound, Tough. He still runs all-out, every day.

Take a tennis ball, leave a tennis ball(this is from the dog beach on Honeymoon Island in FL).

Wow, that guy look like all run and muscle.

So far Delilah’s coming along AOK, she likes chilling in the kitchen and she went to her cage last night without a problem. She didn’t want to go in this morning though and she sure has a lot of pee in her.
