Hey, OKC Dopers!

Y’all okay out there?

God hates Moore Oklahoma.

I think my sister lost her house. She and her husband should both be at work and safe.

FWIW, OKC’s Channel 9 weatherman (watching the livestream) thinks this will be the worst tornado ever. :frowning:

IS that Gary England? He knows tornadoes.

This must be true. 3 times since I’ve moved here. I’m on the NW side (Village/Nichols Hills area)

My volunteer group is on alert, but we will wait till cleared to enter. Things are much different since May 3, 1999. Lots better organization. Hwys are already shut down to allow 1st responders to do their work. A no fly zone is even in effect, so helicopter news crews don’t drown out cries (or whimpers) for help from beneath the rubble.

We’ll let them do the rescue, then, as we’re able, we’ll help in recovery and rebuilding.
.

tv news said a hospital and two schools hit in Moore. all accounted for at one school though no comment on their condition.

tornado was a mile wide or more. tv news shows a multiblock wide flattened path. 200 mph winds.

area still has storms for tonight.

Six fatalities confirmed so far. I think there are going to be a lot more, the devastation is incredible. Two elementary schools and a hospital are completely leveled. There should have been plenty of advance notice, but where would all those kids go during school hours?

You can get a live feed here

I work in Edmond. So glad my school has a basement.

We had to shelter right at dismissal.

One of the reports said that since the F5, over 10,000 safe rooms and shelters were installed in OK (no cite)

That live feed is heartbreaking – a news reporter is with the “last four kids” that are unclaimed from one of the schools. He matter-of-factly asked an 8 year old why he thought his home was demolished and the poor little guy said that it was right behind the school so if the school was crushed he thought his house was too, and that his parents were both off work today. So the reporter asked him where he was going to stay, and the little boy says, “If my parents are still alive…” and the reporter stays in reporter mode instead of hugging him and telling him everything is going to be okay. And he can’t remember their names or ages, he keeps asking them, and the third grader seems a bit exasperated that he keeps having to repeat it. Poor little things, I hope their parents are okay and they are back in loving arms very soon.

They just said on 4 that the focus at the school was changing from rescue to recovery :frowning:

Bad news from one of the schools - It is no longer a “Search and rescue” mission, but a “Search and recovery” one. There are still two dozen kids unaccounted for.

Oh no, how terrible. They just showed a white car upside down just a few feet away from another reporter, completely crushed down to the bottom of the windows, with one of the blinkers still blinking. Ahhhhh, I want to make sure no one is trapped in that car. And I want to believe that is bad information and there is no way to know if there are children still to rescue in that school.

My nephew and his family live in Moore. That was a seriously crappy couple of hours, not being able to find out any info. Finally, his wife was able to text family and spread the word that all are ok.

37 confirmed dead per OK State Medical Examiner.

Patient Care hotline - 405-307-1366 - for people who are looking for relatives in the Moore area.

Tulsan here. I’m having bad May '99 flashbacks. At least this time all my friends are either in Edmond or Norman. Thankfully the storm died out before it got here, but it was scary watching it come up the turnpike.

My heart is just breaking for everyone in Moore. I can’t bear to think about those kids…

Oh. My. God.
