Hey, OKC Dopers!

Holy fuck…my nephew just posted pics of the neighborhood next to his. Some seriously unspeakable shit (make use of the “previous” button in the upper right)…

Just saw this on Facebook. A good resource, as long as people post on it…

Damn. Looks like the May 3rd, 99 damage. :frowning:

Just heard 55 fatalities. No cite, broadcast TV

With good reason

How (or why?) in the world can they fly a helicopter that close to that thing?

I live down south where the the line(s) of storms ‘fired up’ (kind of east of Ft Sill / Duncan area), and got to watch a funnel just east of me get bigger and bigger. I got lots of pics not upped yet - power just came back on a few mminutes ago, and am learning of the deaths and extent of damages. Not surprised - the mugginess and ‘feel’ of the atmosphere was eerie. In my gut, I knew it was gonna be a bad day. Never dreamed of THIS. And in Moore AGAIN. SHIT

Time for me to empty all my penny jars and any other money/clothing/food/etc as LOTS of people need it more than me at this time. Fuck! FUCK FUCK I drove out just east of my home where there were four smaller funnels spotted (Lake Humphreys area, fwiw) and took some pics of downed cottonwoods and ‘scrub’ trees - so grateful I was on the lesser end of the rage visited.

Poor Moore - used to work with an anesthesiologist who lost two new homes in a row from tornadoes there and rebuilt close to Moore Med Center. I got a bad feeling - third times a charm. FUCK !!! Lots worse than I could have guessed. Had been sitting around listening to car radio to see if relatives in Harrah were affected at all as they drove to northwest to get out of line of fire. Cannot reach them yet, and we are near-freaking right now. Can’t remember my hands shaking so badly, not ever.

Seriously, anyone that can send dollars and/or other items, please PLEASE do so. We’ll pay it forward - again  The traumatic edge has not set in just yet for me mentality, but I am tearing up just typing what I can.

I hope my niece(s) and sis-in-law are all OK, Screw the house - I want to see her graduate soon. Sigh…

Jesus dude. I hope you and yours are okay. What a nightmare.

:frowning:

The photos of the devastation are just overwhelming, especially the elementary schools.

"A massive tornado up to a mile wide chewed through Moore, Okla., a suburb of Oklahoma City, on Monday afternoon, grinding up entire neighborhoods and obliterating an elementary school where students who had huddled in a hallway with their teachers were buried in rubble.

The state medical examiner’s office said late Monday that 51 people had been confirmed killed in the tornado. That number will surely rise. “We’re sitting at 51, and the phone calls just keep coming,” said Amy Elliot, a spokeswoman for the office."

It’s a special type of steady-cam type mount (not sure exactly what company makes it) that allows shake free use of super telephotos on board a helicopter. Was big news locally when every news channel updated to them. That, and these are awesome pilots.

You’re a little late.

My sister and husband are OK. Their house took a little damage. A 2x4 through the roof and a lot of mud. Real little considering they basically live at SW 3rd and Telephone road.

Send money, but make sure they actually want anything else before you send it.

Jesus fucking Christ. That’s when you say back to the studio, throw the mic at the camera operator and do something useful.

Dear god this is just unimaginable. That thing turned everything in its path into matchsticks.

Any word yet?

Thank Og.

Another Okie doper here. We’re quite a bit southwest of Moore but I’ve got friends and relatives near the path. I’m still waiting to hear about them. From the National Weather Service track, I think they should be OK but the waiting is awful.

I was at the Warren Theater on Friday. It took a direct hit. The hospital next to it is gone.

How long before Par Robertson and Mike Huckabee blame this on me and my community. I want to marry the person I love and this is how GOD treats 'Merica for even considering it. Huckabee hates me…

I realize a lot of people couldn’t escape due to the intensity but there are things we can do to mitigate this in the future. Everybody should bookmark a radar SUMMARY on their phone. Not just the regular radar images but the SUMMARY images that give cloud height, direction, speed of the storm, meso and hail conditions. This gives a lot of information on how bad something is going to get. A severe T-storm cell will usually hit an altitude of 45,000 feet. When you see a line that is 75 miles wide and a hundred or more miles long and 45,000 feet is the low end of the altitude of the imbedded cells than this will almost always drop a deadly series of tornadoes. It takes a lot of energy to push clouds to 65,000 feet. If you see this coming then you have time to plan your day around the idea you’ll need shelter.

If you’re outdoors and you see a storm coming and the lighting is bright emerald green that is a refraction of the light through hail. Most thunderstorms have hail inside them but if you see an intense green that is a sign of a powerful storm. Time to take shelter.

I have friends who work at Tinker AFB. Any word on damage there?
