Not my fault that the edited title didn’t show up on the thread list.
I don’t believe Tinker AFB was hit this time. I drove just to the east of there to get home and didn’t see any damage. Haven’t heard of any storm damage in Del City or Midwest City so far.
RE: The choppers - great pilots, very good ideas of where the storms are going, being in the safe areas compared to that, and good camera systems. The Ch 4 guy said that at one point he was within a mile in 60 mph inflow winds and that he was just hitting his uncomfortable point.
My friends teach there. No damage beyond typical thunder storm stuff.

In the last half hour the reported number of dead kids has gone from 20 to 7, which is… good? Weird to say that 7 dead kids (for now, anyway) is a good thing but it’s better than 20. Still, I continue, as always, to wish the news would worry less about being first and more about getting reliable information. I’m stupid emotional for no reason as it is, the giant “20 DEAD KIDS” at the bottom of my television screen isn’t helping.
Ugh, I’m going to bed. I think 24 hour “news” networks are ruining every single thing.
A quick check-in: all are well. Deep breath of relief.
But, 20 kids dead?!?! I got in a near-fist fight with the parent of four kids I drive to/from school every day (he and Mom have no driver’s license. The elem school here was sending kids home early if they had a ride to come get them. I called Dad (a Mexican National on expired papers, long story for later maybe) to make sure someone would be home so I could go pick them up. Dad said he would call and take care of it. Turns out he only asked if school would keep them all day - so that he and wife could go run errands, I found out the kids were still there at school about 10 minutes before school let out, AND A TORNADO WAS ON GROUND NEARBY. Oh the motherfucgger. I was on way out door to go get 'em and drive away from storm but then Dad pulled in my driveway wanting to argue that I never told him kids could come home. He actually wanted to argue, in his barely-spoken English, that I never told him to get kids home early. He would not move his t ruck so I could leave and I was literally trying to get past him to take HIS truck. He finally got the message as the hail began - and he/kids spent a good while hiding at the school. Principal was NOT happy with him to say the least.
When I learned of all the kids deaths, I printed out a translated story for him and yelled at him for much too long. I think he got the point of his idiocy and that he is lucky I did not eviscerate him then and there. I’m still shaking thinking about it as I love those kids as if they were my own. Stupid ignorant parents who should not have kids under their control - and I had cancelled a meeting with Director of Dept Human Services (for child abuse) as the kids are malnourished, beaten-on, mom is xanax/narco junkie etc, etc…and then he pulls this shit of using school as a babysitter when most other kids were already outta there. This should prove interesting tomorrow when I get my ducks lined back up.
Its been a stressful day to say the least. At least no one here (or extended family elsewhere was hurt that I know of - and the schools are untouched. Phew! I have much to do to protect my Amigos, though. Its game-on with the parents - kids need a mommy/daddy (of which they already call my wife and I )
I forgot to mention that another line of ‘rotating thunderstorms’ passed by us about an hour ago. No rest for the wicked, right?! Wife is scared to close her eyes and go to sleep right now as who knows if/when a third line of storms will form all of a sudden?! Mother Nature is SUCH a bitch, ain’t she!
At least 91 confirmed dead, 233 injured according to officials.
AUGH - I wake up just now and find MORE rotating thunderstorms headed at me. HEAVY rain with shifting winds - not good for rescuers and those still trapped. The radar image is filled with the storm-symbols to worry about Gotta go wake everyone up now, just in case.
I can’t remember it ever being so steady in the threat of tornadoes for so long a period. Another long day of worry coming up.
I make another call for sending whatever aid anyone can (dollars or clothing, etc) to those needing it around Central OK and other areas affected. It ain’t over yet.
Wow. Unreal.
Stay safe and keep us informed.
I am wondering about other areas, other states. Hard to find out anything besides local right now, even the national feeds I’m getting are centered on OKC.
I saw weather radar yesterday in several states. What happened?
Lots of stuff like this all over Facebook. Just search Oklahoma City, Moore, or Tornado relief
There’s been a marked change in outlook since yesterday. Where things appeared to be headed for Missouri/Illinois late yesterday, now they look headed for Tennessee and more southerly spots. Local weather is calling for potential severe weather in Mid-TN by nightfall.
It’s hard to get consistent viewpoints. They all seem to be grasping at straws.
OK seems to be worst hit so far.
Stay safe, my man!
thank you
By the time of your post, there were 28 responses to his thread. The fact that you didn’t connect “OKC” with “Oklahoma City” isn’t a huge error, but no need to try to blame him for it.
Good news: Death toll revised down to 24.
Thanks for the Tinker news.
i think it remarkable that only 24 or up to 50 die from that storm.
response to tornado producing storms has improved. with populated areas expanding it finally has to. when populated areas being hit people started getting serious about it.
people have provided better shelters in home. people take better precautions.
the schools held children in rather than send them out in buses, that would get picked up and crushed in a tornado, to shelter in place. business and stores have created more shelters.
warnings given now have changed. in some previous recent events when people saw warnings they went to tv to watch or thought they would just keep an eye out. the warning now are not just ‘tornado warning’ they have changed it to ‘you are going to die if you don’t take shelter’. the weather service has changed warnings (in the central USA) to clearer impact warnings (what will happen to you if the serious weather event impacts you).
I don’t think they should be allowed to interview children until the parents or a guardian gets there and gives them permission.
