One of my employees just told me that he had a buddy, that he served in Nam with, lost a son in the 1999 storm in Moore.
He just got word that his buddy and wife were both killed in yesterday’s storm.
Fuck.
My employee was sitting at my desk blubbering like a baby.
Damn.
Damn. So sorry to hear that.
When I read this, I went to check. I’m no shill for Coinstar, but you can dump your change and choose to donate it instead of getting your cash back. The Red Cross is one of the charities you can donate to. I have some jars laying around and that’s what I’ll probably do AT LEAST. The last time I emptied them out it was about $100.
From the website, I can’t tell if they take their percentage or not.
Frankly, I’d be surprised if they do - you get 100% of your amount if you get giftcards. I’ll try to dig around as well.
Moore tornado is now rated as an EF5, 1.3 miles wide with a 17 mile path.
Good deal! Thanks!
I knew they did for gift cards, but I assumed the company was picking up the percentage. I didn’t even know they did it for charities until I looked! Lesson learned!
I can’t tell the exact path, but looking at the photos, looks like an acquaintance might have been very close. They live just south of SW 141st on South Harvey. He said they were really close to the 1999 tornado, looks like they are really close to this one. If the track was just to the south edge of the Orr racetrack, they might be far enough north to escape total destruction. I think his kids are old enough to be out of grade school, but just. He’s about equidistant from the two that were hit.
That’s so sad - my condolences to your employee.
