I’ve been working at the hospital for almost two years now. A friend of mine had been working there for about three years prior. We had worked together at the hell hole of a paper company before that.
He’s currently the head of the contract management team. They make sure the insurance company pays what they are supposed to. He’s been trying to get me to join his team for a while, but until recently, there’s been no money in the budget to add another person. Last month the money was allotted and a position was created. He asked me about it and I hesitated. Unfortunately, a woman who was in the refunds department took the opening.
However, there’s been a lot of changes to the contract system. The big wig financial types have been wanting to see what our AR looks like after the discounts are applied. This gives then a better picture of the cash flow. Makes sense to me. There were quite a few bugs in the system. Most of the major bugs have been eliminated.
The woman got freaked out by all the problems before they were fixed and decided to take another position elsewhere in the hospital. This opened up the position again. This time I went to my friend’s supervisor and applied for the job.
On Friday, I got it!!
I start next Monday. This will be a step up in position (I go from Biller I to Senior Biller). A small raise will go with this!
In the past, I would have been content (but not really) to stay in a safe position rather than take a chance on something new. That’s why I stayed in the the hell hole paper company for 8 years.
This is why I like this company. There’s always an opportunity to move up and everyone is supportive when you do so. My supervisor expressed sorrow that I was leaving the insurance billing team, but wished me luck just the same.
Hopefully, I won’t screw it up!
