I got a new job!!!!!!

I’m so excited I can barely sit at the keyboard.

I’ve been in my current position for four years, and while I intially loved the job, over the past year or so, there have been many changes that I won’t go into here, but suffice to say that I’ve grown to resent being here. I’ve tried to infuse some of the passion I used to have, but it’s just not there. So, I’ve been searching for awhile now, but still doing my job here. I’ve come across a few things, but they’ve not been what I wanted or, worse yet, weren’t paying anything near my current salary. (I simply cannot afford to work for less pay.)

Well, two weeks ago, I came across a position and sent my resume. The interview was last Monday, and last night, they called to offer me the position. Not only is it doing what I want to do, but it’s more money and better benefits!

I came in the morning with my four week (yep, FOUR WEEKS) notice hot off the press. In the mean time, I’ll spend the next four weeks finishing up projects and using the rest of my vacation time (another bonus–I’m now down to three and four day working weeks for the next four weeks!).

The downside is that although I could talk to my immediate supervisor (she cried, and I did too, as we’re really good friends as well as co-workers and she’s sorry to see me go, but says she understands), I can’t talk to the president of the organization, as she is out a meetings all morning. (And I need to talk to her when I give her my notice.) So…it’s hush-hush for now…except for the internet.

Congrats!

Congratulations! Best of luck as you strike off down this new road.

W00t! Congratulations and best of luck in your new job!

Congrats!!

A kayaking trip with a new date, an awesome new job… damn, girl, score one for the good guys!!

ETA: Err, score two for the good guys.

Congrats! I’m happy for you (and jealous).

Cool!!!

Is the job in the same geographic area (Harrisburg, right?) or will you be moving? Will it be doing work similar to your current job? WE NEED DETAILS

It’s two blocks from where I currently work (downtown Harrisburg). I’ll be working in communications and outreach, which is to say I’ll have a hand in designing program related materials, then distributing them.

The first of the year, when staff had their evaluations and set their goals for the year, I went to my employer and made it know that I’d wanted to make a shift in some of my responsibilities. I wanted to include more program design and communications (of which I’d been doing to some degree, but wasn’t getting recognition for it). I was told that “that’s not what we hired you to do”. However, gradually, my job duties have shifted–some have been redistributed to other people, some I’ve been told not to do (by management) and I’ve been promised a shift in what I was doing, but not to what I’d requested.

Combined by other factors, I decided to look for another position, so I kept my eyes open. When the new position came available, I sent my resume. They interviewed me a week ago and I got the call last night. Oh, and they hadn’t even checked all my references (who kept me posted as to contact)–one of whom called me this morning to report she’d just talked to the New Employer, confirming what the NE thought of me and their decision to offer me the job.

When I interviewed, I told them what I was currently making (not terribly smart, I know), and when they offered me the position, it was more than what I’m currently making. I was in such a shock, that I plopped down in the kitchen chair. I tried to play it cool though.

I did do the happy dance around the kitchen once I’d hung up. It was a lonely happy dance though, with Hallboy being gone to camp this week and all.

Also, I had thoughts of writing the stream of consciousness resignation letter, the “Here’s the REAL reason I’m leaving, you nutcase!” resignation letter, but decided against it, thanks to a recent thread.
