I did some yardwork for our neighbors and they gave me a gift certificate for Cracker Barrel in return. The wife and had lunch there on Sunday (I had fried catfish!)
While browsing in their gift shop I noticed they had Mallo Cups. Wow, I haven’t seen those since I was a kid!
Grabbed a pack and ate one last night. Not the yummy goodness I remembered but not too bad.
Oh, yeah. I remember them.
Alas, I never got more than a nibble of one.
My sibs loved them. Looked forward to them coming out every fall(I think they were big players in Halloween around here)
It seems they weren’t kept in warm climates in the summer.
Guy I worked with got some from a vending machine and there were bugs in it. He wrote to the company about it and they sent him a ton of coupons for Mallo cups but I haven’t wanted them since that happened. Would have been 1974 or 1975, been a long time since I had one.
My dad used to buy them and keep them, on top of the fridge so I couldn’t reach them. They are still quite good (I had the dark chocolate kind) but when I was a kid I thought they were heaven in a cup!
I live about an hour from Altoona, home of the Boyer factory where Mallo Cups are made. They’re also making Clark Bars now, if you miss those. Next to the factory is an outlet store where you can get discounted candy. One of these days I’m going to go there.
Mallo Cups pretty ubiquitous around the gas stations in Wisconsin, along with Zero bars, and Bun bars, which I also adore/loathe depending on how recently I’ve binged on sugar. Two of each of those candies a year will generally do it for me.
Now if they’d only bring back the Seven Up candy bar. I really miss that thing. It had 7 pieces, each with a different flavor. Flavors changed with the availability and popularity of ingredients, which included, among others, brazil nut, buttercream, butterscotch, caramel, cherry, coconut, fudge, mint, nougat, jelly, maple and orange.
