I better write that down…
I love collecting pithy little sayings (here’s a favorite: Momma, I am pooped up to my ass), but over the years, I have also tried to collect my own thoughts and personal aphorisms. Here’s a sampling:
*Child, open that clenched fist you call a mind.
(I taught HS English for ten years.)
You learn more by taking a good fall than by fighting a good throw.
(I teach judo, too)
The most important part of all is the part you didn’t hear.
I don’t need to beat myself, life does that enough already.
The secret of writing is not to have terrible, huge events occur to you; to write powerfully, you need to look with large eyes, eyes of wonder, to see the enormous power in the smallest movement.
I am happy in the sharpness of my pleats.
When you are wrong, apologize, expect nothing in return, and go on.
The less threatening I am, the more dangerous I can be.
I can not truly believe something I do not truly question.*
I would love to hear what original scintillating wit and profound wisdom all you marvelous Dopers have composed yourselves. Variations on a theme borrowed from some famous source are ok, but I invite you to string your truly original pearls on this thread.
