After not watching Andromeda for a while, I “accidentally” saw an episode. The purple girl (Trance?) isn’t purple anymore. Now she’s gold. And has more hair and wears leather. (Which is fine by me.)
And the hairy guy (Rev?) wasn’t around.
I skimmed through the official Andromeda website, but didn’t get far.
One of the (executive?) producers left the show.
He was the main advocate for having a overall story arc.The powers that be (including Kevin Sorbo I think) wanted more stand alone episodes.
The PTB also wanted to turn up the eye candy on the show. The in-character explantaion is that the new Trance is from the future. The purple skinned Trance had to sacrifice herself to preserve the ship, or the universe, or something (her purple pigment transferred to Rommies hair )
Robert Hewitt Wolfe is the guy they fired.
Sorbo thought his story arcs “to complicated” and believes that viewers should want to sleep with the actors. He wants to abandon the “restore the Commonwealth” theme to “tune in a nd turn on” (or maybe turn up, I was taking Pepto Bismol when I read it.)
Brent Whats-his-name, the guy who played Rev Bem quit due to allergies to the monkey suit makeup.
Did you see what great episodes they have now? “Lava Rocket”.
“In Heaven Now Are Three”. Who were those guys? Why did the sword make a clanging noise when it hit the spear? What was with the Stargate voice the woman Shina woman had? And, didn’t Kirk have that fight about thirty years ago?
“Too complicated”? What? “The Federa… Commonwealth fell apart and we’re here to slap that bitch back together.” How hard is that? As long as things git blowed up, what do I care?
When Rev Bem left, did they all say goodbye, or did they just quit writing about him? Maybe send him on vacation and have him molt or something. Bring in a new rug-wearer. (If they can have “Future Trance” they can do anything.)
I guess I’ll just have to watch again. Just to see where they take the whole thing. (Clanging swords, Power Lances from the original season, I know, now they need a Frisbee that can cut your head off.)
-Rue.
P.S. To turn up on “eye candy” do you think they’ll park it around some Amazon Planet and crew up there? The mind boggles.
“now they need a Frisbee that can cut your head off”…
Actually, they had something like that in the “In Heaven Now Are Three” episode.
As for people who missed Trance’s x-form, they are re-running “Ouroboros” in a few weeks, and you can see first-hand how Future Trance arrives.
I like the new direction, but I wish the blonde girl from “Lava and Rockets” would have stuck around as a main character since she was very entertaining and had good chemistry with Kevin Sorbo.
What the show really needs is a new action / stunt coordinator since all the combat sequences are the same, it seems. Maybe it is poorly filmed, but it always seems to be the good guys face a larger number of bad guys / aliens who can’t aim (at least at the starring cast members). The good guys are expert marksmen and the bad guys get blasted and fall down.
They did a few interesting things with Rommie’s android abilities, but I’d like to some low-G space fighting with good wire-work. Also, let’s see more of tweedledum and tweedledee. Example: Harper goes to Earth in “Bunker Hill” armed only with a pea shooter? Yeah, let’s forget to bring the heavy firepower armored mechs!
