Hey tomndebb, did you delete a post?

**astro **started this thread and asked for it to be moved. You complied, but somehow this post got left behind. What gives?

The post shows up for me in said moved thread.

Crazy. Is it post #2? Who has post #3?

What do you see in this link? Jewish Power and Pat Buchanan's statements on the The McLaughlin Group - Factual Questions - Straight Dope Message Board

I think they’re separate OPs.

Did you click on tomndebb’s link?

The OPs are identical.

It looks like tom just copied the OP into a new thread, without bothering to bring along the non-substantive replies.

Now I get it. The thread was closed, not moved. Thanks.

But is that SOP? Would you do something like that, decide which posts were substantive? I thought deleting posts was a rare occurence, and only for extreme reasons.

Now I’m thinking **astro **c & p’ed it and **tom **was just directing traffic.

The posts aren’t deleted. They’re still there. I did something like that once, when after a spectacularly ham-handed attempt at splitting a thread, most of the posts were making fun of either me or (undeservedly) the OP. So I moved the relevant posts into a new thread and closed the remnant. But, no, it’s certainly not SOP.

Now that you mention it, that is more likely.

Moments after I saw the GQ thread, I stumbled on the identical OP in GD with one non-resposive reply and one request for destruction. Rather than merge the GD thread into the GQ thread, bringing a snide post violating GQ protocol along with what would be a confusing request for destruction, and rather than destroying or hiding the thread, (causing some posters to doubt their memories or sanity), I simply noted where the “real” thread was and closed the one that was out of place. (Look at he date/time stamps on the OPs.)

Posts are made to be deleted. Get over it.

Sorry, komb, but the culture on this messsage board says that posts are not meant to be deleted. Posts are meant to exist forever. Because of this, whenever a post or a thread appears to have vanished, people post threads about them. I don’t think that this thread was intended to be hostile to tomndebb, more curious–did I see what I thought I saw? I doubt anyone has anything to get over, but you might try spending more time reading this board before you do too much more posting.
