I’d call it a terrible comeback. Guin gave us an example of EIGHT threads Zeldar started this week. Zeldar’s comeback was to show us that Guin started 4 threads in the last 130 weeks. Oooo, careful Guin, you’re clogging up the front page.
For full disclosure, Guin has started 11 threads in the last year, Zeldar, 187.

I get the OP’s annoyance, but no reason to pit. The fundamental purpose of the SD and, by extension, the SDMB is to fight ignorance.
Well, the most recent example of MY ignorance being fought occurred during a Zeldar thread. I now am aware of the perfect beauty that is embodied (ahem) in Claudia Cardinale! My life will never be quite the same (though Mrs. Map is right up there as well).
But why is a poll thread needed for you to learn about Claudia Cardinale? What is gained over just having a discussion thread, say about “Beautiful women of the 1950s-1960s”?
What bugs me is that I get lured by the promise of pie or some other baked treat when I participate in a poll, but I get nothing.

True. But that’s how I treat these polls – as discussions. I could care less who actually wins a poll, mich less who has so many votes at different moments during the poll.
It worked pretty well for those “best #1 songs of 1962,” etc. poll threads we had about a year ago (Smapti’s thing, was it?)…but that’s partly because the poll itself provided interesting, often surprising information, whereas Zeldar’s do not.
