Zenster, remember a couple weeks back when you asked “why does all rap suck”? And I full on agree with you that more than 90% of the shit that’s out there, is CRAP. However, when I replied to your OP I tried to tell all who were involved with the thread, that there was quality hip-hop out there, you just had to look hard and deep. I just wanted to share an article (www.examiner.com/000919/0919jurassic.html) with you that shows people are feeling how you do about that mainstream rap. Basically that they’re sick of it and are in dire need of some quality hip-hop. It’s cool when shows (as described in the article) come around so people can witness REAL hip-hop and see what the hip-hop culture is all about. I just don’t want you to give up hope on an entire musical genre, man. I think people are ready for that pendulum to start swinging back to the old school vibe, and I hope everyone will notice the change as well.
I just picked up the Jurassic 5 album a couple of weeks ago after downloading some of their stuff off of Scour. Good stuff, and a breath of fresh air from the whole “sex, money, and murder” thing.
Going hand-in-hand, I guess, with the whole quality hip-hop revival is the new stuff coming out in R&B. I got Jill Scott’s CD (she toured with The Roots and sang Erykah Badu’s part in “You Got Me”). Holy Damn. It’s one of the best albums I’ve ever heard.
