One thing I like about the channel, especially on House Hunters, is that they’ll have a gay couple on there and it won’t even be mentioned. I like how they don’t make a big deal out of it because really, it shouldn’t be a big deal.
In regards to the “mexicans” on the show I’m assuming they’re all Americans, so they probably have the necessary paperwork.
I also used to wonder why there were so many gay couples shown on those shows. They never comment on it, and shouldn’t, and perhaps I’ve just been lucky (if it’s considered lucky) in the relatively few number of episodes I’ve watched (about 20), but it did stand out to me as being about 30% of the people profiled, which is way higher a proportion than in the general population.
It all comes down to who has enough freedom and disposable income to spend lavishly on large houses and expensive remodeling jobs. My wife (who watches these shows a LOT) pointed out that people buying and/or extensively redoing these houses (which are always fairly high budget) tended to be in one of three categories:
With a couple of appearances of single women buyers (it’s never a single man) that she deemed “starter wife who got a big payout in a divorce settlement from a wanna-be Sugar Daddy upgrader” (you can tell where her sympathies lie).
Or, as an offshore pirate once astutely observed on The Simpsons, “Ah, another homosexual party boat! They always have such nice things.”
I miss HGTV. My school’s satellite package doesn’t include it.
As for the mexicans, I’m too busy wondering if that spot on the ceiling is a spider and should therefore be squashed or lint and can wait until the bimonthly cleaning to worry about their immigration status.
This Californian is always surprised by how many of the work crews shown are white-- that’s never the case 'round these parts. So, I’m not sure what Mexicans you’re speaking of, because I don’t see them on the shows (except, ya know, when they’re in Mexico).
Actually, a lot of the HGTV shows are in Canada, aren’t they? So. . . there ya go.
I see tons of gay and interracial couples on HGTV shows too (and on “Clean Sweep”). I think it’s cool.
A lot of the contractors I see on house-flipping shows are Hispanic. I assume their crew is Hispanic too but they’re not really talking to the cameras so I don’t know. I highly doubt the contractors in these big-money flips are illegals.
This is good but it doesn’t count all of the interracial couples with kids. There a a whole lot of those. Plus, there are tons of single men buying properties in Florida, Central America and the Caribbean.
And I will mention, yet again, the interracial couples. It is still surprising for me to see older (over 40) interracial couples. They must all be Canadian.
I know of illegal aliens that have legal doc, the documents are 100% legal, but they don’t belong to the person using him. Manuel Dominguez is the legal alien and the other 100, Manuel Dominguez’s using his documents are not.
