My very first pitting of a specific board member, and it’s all yours, baby. I hope you’re as thrilled as I think you are.
Dio, you’re a mouthbreathing troglodyte when it comes to sex. On many other topics, you’re interesting and I even like you a little, but add sex to anything, and your frontal lobe goes into neutral and you start posting with your lizard brain.
Your opinions about sex workers are ill-informed, stupid, regressive, and idiotic. Your ability to ignore even the most basic facts about any scenario that pushes your emotional hot buttons is nearly epic, and your continued blindness to anything resembling logic as it applies to the proclivities of others is astonishing, even for me. And believe me, doing outreach and public work for alternate lifestyles as I do, that’s saying something.
You “contribute” to threads where all you have to offer is spewing bile and lunacy, where you hold nothing but contempt for the people therein, and you have absolutely no value whatsoever beyond being the smelly ranting lunatic who staggers in screaming about his “rights” and his “sensibilities” while he pisses on the furniture. Your thoughts and feelings have no bearing on the conversation at hand, and you don’t care. Your ideas about what’s appropriate and what’s not are draconian and ignorant at best, and downright self-defeatingly moronic at worst.
In short, Diogenes the Cynic, shut the fuck up. You do your namesake no credit, you do this board no credit, you do yourself no credit when you emit the kind of nonsensical brain porridge that you’re currently spewing all over an otherwise perfectly good thread in IMHO. Shut. The Fuck. Up. You’re behaving like a cretin, and stinking up the joint.
Can you maybe link to some specific posts you find all that offensive? I read the first few Dio posts and none jump out at me. Yes, Dio has a history of making some truly obnoxious comments about other people’s sexuality, but I’m just not seeing it here.
The thread specifically asked for opinions in a forum called IMHO. I gave my opinion about a specific scenario involving a prostitute and a customer. I made no value judgements about prostitution or sex work and I even said there was nothing wrong with it. I don’t see the issue here.
I think it’s more that a particular discussion was taking place and going in a particular direction and he jumped in at cross-purposes, all “and what is it with airline food, anyway?”
I’m with Dio on this one. How is a BDSM girl NOT a prostitute? She is being paid for a sexual favor/to give sexual gratification. Is she’s not a prostitute simply because she gets to order the John around first? Because she gets to wear A PVC suit? Why?
Nope. The OP of that thread asked who was out of line in a particular situation described in a linked article between a submissive and a professional dominatrix. What you did was repeatedly (after a polite* request to desist) declare that the situation was that of a john and a prostitute and refuse to see it as anything else.
Given that one of the posters in that thread (the one who invited you to her party here) has acknowledged having been a professional dominatrix, I personally find your repeated assertions to be insulting to her, demeaning, and personal.
I guess there’s a legal distinction, and somebody in the other thread said the customers don’t come (though I don’t see how the girls would be able to stop that), but I think the distinction is so fine as not to really matter. I think it should all be legal anyway, so I’m not passing any moral judgement. I think it’s all fine and dandy. I don’t see that any of it hurts anybody, but the sniffing protestations that it’s not really prostitution are kind self-deluding, IMO. Also just a hair hypocritical. It implies that there’s something wrong with being a prostitute.
I would not presume to answer for A Priori Tea, but the main difference I see is that a dominatrix, as I understand it, outside of a larger relationship, does not perform sex acts with their clients. Her job is to provide a submissive client with services he cannot get elsewhere. If he wants a humjob, he should see a hoooker. If he wants to have someone who knows what she’s doing flog him until he can finally free his mind of the troubles of it’s everyday world, he sees a dominatrix.
If he finds sexual release through that, believe it or not, some doms would refuse to see him again.
I mentioned this in the other thread but think that it is worth reiterating here. The people involved in this subculture do not define this as prostitution and have made clear in no uncertain terms that this is so. To continue to use this (charged) term is pretty insulting and obtuse.
I said that one particular prostitute was rude to one particular John. I’m not going to “desist” in that opinion, just because some people don’t like my terminology. In my opinion, IS prostitution, and I’m not the only person in that thread or this one who thinks so. If that hurts somebody’s feelings, that’s too bad. It doesn’t mean I think any less of that person. Understand tthat I don’t think there’s anything wrong with prostitution.
Perhaps she’s a prostitute, I’m not coming down on either side of the question, but she is not simply a prostitute. It might be like the distinction between prostitute and courtesan; you may say she’s just a prostitute, nothing more, and you’d be wrong. The courtesan gets paid more and does more than just have sex with her patron. There is a whole culture built around the courtesan, rules, mores, expectations, and both sides in the arrangement ought to follow them.
In other words, you can call a dominatrix a prostitute if you like but you are speaking of a particular type of prostitute, and seeing that particular type of prostitute means you follow some rules. If you don’t want to follow those rules you go to another type of prostitute, take your money elsewhere, you’ll probably end up paying less for a non-BDSM prostitute anyway.
