Hi everyone!

Ok, so I’ve finally decided to go ahead and take the plunge and subscribe to the dope. I’m a long time lurker (about 4 years I think) and I’ve always had a lot of fun reading through all these crazy and entertaining threads so I figured it was about time to pony up the cash.

A little bit about myself…let’s see I’m a 22 year old guy and recently graduated from college this past spring with a bachelors in Political Science. I’m currently living in the house I grew up in DC which I’m renting from my father who recently moved to another place in DC. I work as a program analyst for the US Dep. of Education and it’s a pretty good job but i’m still kind of shopping my resume around.

Anyway, I think you guys are awesome and I’m looking forward to finally participating in some threads!

Woohoo - another MADoper!! Welcome, and kiss your free time goodbye!

Hi, Dr. Nick!
</everyone>

Welcome to the Dope Cowboy8467. Enjoy the stay.

What languages do you program in?

I strickly program in RPG/RPGLE these days.

Hello Cowboy8467. Be welcome. Enjoy your stay.

Welcome!

You don’t have to speak fluent Esperanto or program HP calculators or perform heart surgery on mice of call down the Norse gods or critique Punjabi lounge music to have a good time here, but it wouldn’t surprise me…

Ha ha, sorry I guess I should have clarified. It would appear that at the U.S Dept of Education very rarely does ones work title correspond with what they actually do. (I suspect that this is also the case government-wide but i need to poke around some more  ) At any rate I actually work with human subjects related stuff in the grants department. I basically read requests for money from school districts, non-profits, etc. and help to determine whether anything they propose to do involves human subjects research. Fun stuff lemme tell ya.
Thanks for all the warm welcomes guys!

Welcome to the boards.

Although I am getting a teeny bit fed up with educated, literate people who have something to say joining this board.
What happened to thick fanatics who can’t punctuate? Where are they all?

Dont’ werry glee!?! I’m stil hear,

Oh and welcome Cowboy8467. Prepare to waste a lot of time here and forget about a social life, it’s all here now.

Thanks. I know I’m awesome, but I still like to hear people say it. I’m so naturally humble that praise never goes to my head.
And now that you’ve broken the ice after a couple of years and started your first thread, I’ll let you in on my secret: The awesomest people start threads. Not a secret exactly, but good advice ignored by too many. A good board has plenty of new threads every day.

Welcome Cowboy8467- Glad you decided to pony up and wave goodbye to the rest of the world. I look forward to your first real engagement on the thread of your choosing.
Welcome again.

Hey, [del]fresh meat[/del] new blood! Welcome to the Dope, the most happenin’ place on the Intarweb tubes that has nothing to do with sex. Or very little to do with it, anyway.

Your room has been prepared, and we have some … regulars that we’d like you to meet*. Please leave any concealed weapons with the hall porter and pies with – oh, I’ll take those for you, might as well be of some use around here. Thanks.

Now feel free to take advantage of the amenities and enjoy your stay!

  • The restraints are for your own good. Please do not be alarmed.

Hi and welcome. I’ve lurked far too long myself, and will most likely be subscribing when my guest membership is up. Enjoy your stay!

You just aren’t reading the right threads.

No kidding. This place has been known to cause people to get married.

Okay, let me rephrase that: “…whose primary focus is not sex.”

Or am I still not reading the right threads? And if not, please provide links. And pictures. Thanks.

hee. wat swampbere sed.

be welcome, but watch out: this place will suck you in and never let you go.

did i mention it’s addictive? :dubious:

Hi, buddy! You say you graduated this past spring and are living in the DC area? Same with me! You didn’t attend GW by any chance, did you?

Ha ha, don’t I know it. I think I’ve heard something over the years about goats and some kind of initiation ceremony, but I must say that I didn’t delve into that topic too much as it made me distinctly nervous :stuck_out_tongue:

I did graduate this past spring, but it was actually from a relatively small liberal arts college in Lynchburg, VA. For those of you who are familiar with the area, no it was not Liberty University. I’m afraid old Falwell is a bit too wacko for me.

As for this place sucking me in, I’m afraid it’s just a little too late. I’ve been perusing these boards for going on four years now I think and my addiction would be a lot worse if they didn’t block this site at my work (grumble grumble…) Then again maybe some of the brilliant minds here can help me figure out a way to circumvent those stupid government filters
