Ah, the childcare days. I remember them well. Miss them? Not at all. She is a little jewel, dotty
We had absolutely lovely weather this weekend. Fall is finally here. Yesterday I had the back door open all day. We’re supposed to get a tad chilly by Wednesday but I will deal. Got the “No Snow” signs down from the attic and dusted them off. They’ll go in the yard next weekend.
I made chicken stew for din-din yesterday. It is a recipe I use for beef stew but I decided it would work just as well for chicken. I used some boneless skinless thighs. It was nummy but the chicken pretty much fell apart. S’okay.
Good morning! Noor is adorable, dotty. Best of luck on the job search.
I have orientation today and tomorrow for my “new” job, you know, the place I’ve been at for 5 months already. I need to go beautify myself, since today is the day we get our picture taken for our badges. I’m going to be a real employee again! I think they’re more excited about it than I am. I guess on Wednesday, I’ll find out why.
Hey, I got an interview for a full-time teaching position. If I get this, there’s a good chance I could get a working visa and not have to worry about residency issues for the next six years. I’ll let y’all know how it turns out.
Good morning, all. Yes, I am making an appearance. Sorry for not being around.
Dotty, cute kid and scary story. Especially the whole stopping-breathing part.
You can put me in the lump of people who will pass the baby right along. I got a little irritated last week because someone forced me practically at gunpoint to look at their kiddie pics.
I luurve pickles.
Back later. Oh, yeah, Friday’s Diwali. I’ll try to post a bit about it. I asked for the day off.
Thanks for the explanation, Rigs. Makes perfect sense to me!
Well, I made it to work and stayed for approximately 90 seconds before bursting into tears and coming back home again. It’s a good thing that I’m the boss. I spent some time reading and now I’m just hanging out with the puppies.
I am home from “Day 2” and taking a breather from all the housework and organsing I need to get done before sleep and “Day 3”. Work was okay today - still not too much to do in terms of billable client stuff. Just a memo on security issues for a new project financing, which I will be working on with a junior partner and the big boss. Unfortunately, the junior partner tends to drag his heels on reviewing stuff. I gave him the first draft of the memo at 4pm yesterday and had to bug him to get back to me with comments/amendments at 11am today. I made the amendments and gave it back to him, then bugged him about it again at 4pm, as the client wanted the memo this afternoon, and the big boss still needed to review it and sign off. Junior partner said he would look at it and get back to me “maybe today, but probably tomorrow”, so I gently reminded him that I would be leaving at 5:30pm, and the big boss wanted the memo to go out today. JP only finished his second review (of a 3 1/2 page memo) at 5pm. I made the further changes and got it to big boss at 5:10, who got it back to me at 5:25 but then wanted to have a chat, while I was trying not to obviously clock-watch. I finally got the memo finished and sent out at 5:40, before racing down to the car to come home. Grrrr!
Noor’s day was apparently much better than mine. She is besotted with MIL’s housemaid, and was, I am told, a paragon of virtue. She slept for over an hour this morning, then ate all her yoghurt and a biscuit for morning tea. HRH then played with FIL for a couple of hours, before polishing off an ounce of “Vegetable Pasta Bake” (aka orange mush) and an 8 ounce bottle of formula for lunch! Then her afternoon with hubby consisted of more sleep (2 hours after lunch), a visit to her great-grandmother and some dancing (read bouncing in time to the music) with MIL.
Shadow, good luck with your orientation.
{{{Kid}}} I hope things get better for you soon.
Taters, more prayers headed out for MIL.
LiLi, congrats on finishing work - is this like tag-team maternity leave?
Well, time is flying by and I think Noor’s bottles are done soaking now - time to go scrub them out, rinse and refill for tomorrow. Then I need to think about what to wear tomorrow so I can iron it (or convince hubby to iron it for me ), before reheating the lasagna and cooking the garlic bread - din-dins!
Yup. You passed it on to me. Thanks.
Grr. I have been to the office, and filled out the damn badly-worded seventy-page form, and it can’t be processed until I’ve got my Record of Employment, which will come next Friday. In spite of the strongly worded online stuff which tells me to apply as soon as I quit. And then there’s a 28-day holding period. So, six weeks until I see a cheque. Pass the store-brand mac’n’cheese.
Time to start some laundry and sit on the couch with some cats and a book. It’s all rainy and gray out. Tea and biscuits weather.
HRH is a cutie, Dotty. Good luck with the work hours and pay issues.
We had some of my coworkers over on Saturday night and I madethis pumpkin cake. It was a big hit.
Sunday we went to the wildlife refuge and saw a shrike which neither of us had ever seen before. Pretty cool little birds.
And then we went to an absolutely awesome Tibetan/Nepalese restaurant in St. Paul and tried a dish with yak meat in it. Plus we had this really really super yummy okra dish they make.
Oooh, taxi, that looks fabulous! SpecialOne, I think I get my first month’s money retroactively. I hope. The website says they hold onto it for the first month, but it doesn’t say they throw it away or otherwise dispose of it. Here’s hoping.
I’m just getting ready to go into work here in a few minutes. I love part-time already.
I’m in class again this afternoon, ironically one I’ve already taken that I need to re-take in order to be a TA in the class. Oh well, they are paying me so I can’t complain. Here’s to hoping the afternoon goes by fast.
That pumpkin cake looks delish!!! I might have to try that recipe!
Taxi I read up on your cute lil shrike. Holy cow!
“The Loggerhead Shrike is a predator, but it does not have the strong feet and talons of a raptor. It does have a strongly hooked bill for gripping flesh, and a strong notch or “tooth” near the bill tip that helps sever the spinal cord of its prey. It uses thorns and barbed wire to hold large prey while it rips it up, and may wedge prey into a fork in a branch for the same purpose.”
Nice birdie.
Well, I’m in. I have a practicum at this one library. I’ll be doing reader’s advisory and sundry stuff. yay me.
The husband decided to stay home today, the more to torture me. He keeps coming in with stuff like, “did you know the Canadian dollar is up to $1.07?”
It’s still Tony Danza. Would you like his voicemail?
So, day’s moving along fast here. Probably because we’ve been pretty busy, which is always a good thing both for the company and for how it keeps you occupied so you don’t notice the time pass. It’s rather miserable outside though, drizzly and cold. Thankfully I remembered my umbrella.
Rigs - It’s up to $1.07? Cool! Although it makes me wish more and more that I put off buying that new iPod for a week or so.
What?? Oh. Sorry.
Nava - 'Bout time you showed up. Now we’re just missing Roo.
Aaaaagh! A corgi bit my finger! Little bastard. I got sent home and have to keep an eye on the finger – it will probably be fine, but I’ll know in the next few hours if I’m going to have to get it looked at. It’s right over a knuckle, so it might decide to get ugly, otherwise I wouldn’t be at all worried.
It happens to everybody eventually. Still…arrrrrgh!
