The End of the Road...An Island MMP

I haven’t been out to the end of the road at Monashka Bay since last autumn, so when I was offered the opportunity, I jumped on it. Driving out past Ft. Abercrombie and through the edge of the forest is always fun, and there is always the possibility of seeing bears. Suddenly the road takes a sweeping curve and there are grass covered hills rising to the mountains. The hills are dotted with young spruce, but primarily they are covered with a heavy, lush growth of grasses and wild flowers. The road wanders around the hills for a while, and after reaching the highest point of the road there is another sweeping curve and here are more spruce, which slowly dwindle until we reach the point where the creek turns the land to muskeg. Lots of grasses here too, but what remains of the spruce are bleached trunks slowly decomposing. This is where the road ends. I mean it just stops, and there is The Bush staring you in the face. The creek was full and running well, and the songbirds were doing their thing. My favorite summer bird is the golden crowned sparrow, it’s call in the still air is a plaintive three notes descending. A magpie was dancing at the edge of the water, and suddenly an adult eagle sailed in for a not-so-graceful landing upon one of the small spruce boughs directly over the creek. He must have been fishing, as he was keeping a close eye on the water. I picked a few wildflowers, chocolate lilies and cranesbill with a bit of spring beauty, and we headed home.

Even with the chilly, overcast weather, it’s still a fabulous place to live!

I probably ought to post some puppy pics too, hmm?

This is Stripeless and here is Stripeless again. He had a dark stripe down the middle of his back when he was born. It has dissapeared, hence the name.

Here is Oreo Oreo. She is the only girl, and she is so tiny.
She is the only pup with a for sure home, and they have named her.

This is Big Boy. He is a sweet puppy.

This pup is Little Boy. If I am correct about
Little Boy him, he will be my first competing show puppy.

I am including this one just because Little Boy seemed to be saying Hi to all the MMPer’s!

Happy Monday, time for me to get thinking about going to bed!

First!

ETA: kai, I love your description of the bay, and your puppies are absolutely adorable.

Noone, and others who asked in the previous thread - the doctor’s appointment is nothing serious, I’ve just been having indigestion for several weeks now. Probably just stress. Speaking of stress, I’m teaching 30 hours a week this summer, due to a schedule change. They asked me to switch my Tuesday schedule with someone else’s Sunday schedule, which irked me to no end (the prospect of working Sundays, that is) but then I decided that if I’m going to be working a shitty schedule I might as well go all out, so I told them I’d take on the Sunday classes if they let me keep my Tuesday classes as well (I get paid hourly).

Ack, the edit window has closed. Anyway, the school thought I was crazy (my decision to teach 30 hours) but said that would be fine, so I suppose I’ll be rather scarce until the end of August. I miss you guys as it is!

Hello all! Great OP kai. Your descriptions of the Alaskan landscape are breathtaking, and your puppies are oh so cute!

I am at home today, because, well … because I didn’t feel like going to work today! Pbbbbtthhhhht!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

Haze, good luck with your heavy schedule! Sounds like you will be sending yourself cross-eyed in the process, but think of the money!!!

**Kai **-- lovely opener; unfortunately I’m halfway out the door and I’ll look at the pictures later… Going to pick the Terrible Twins[sup]TM[/sup] up from their very last day of Primary School, Evah! (finishing 6th grade today :)).

**Haze **-- Ack about the stress :frowning: Teaching 30 hours seems like a lot, too. Hang in there… BTW – could the indigestion also be at least partially a reaction to your change in diet? Even if you were “native” in the past, you’ve lived for a few years in the US – maybe your system needs some time to get (re-)used to the old food?

Morning all! Great OP, Kai, your descriptions are so good…and those dogs are cute too.

After a weekend of celebrations, I came into work today and handed in my notice. I haven’t heard a peep out of Tin Knickers since I gave her the envelope, she’s probably sitting in her office snivelling into her lace hanky.

It’s going to be a busy week here - we should be getting the exam results from the Law School today which means I’ve got another list to prepare. Then I’ve got to sort out some birthday cards, get currency for our trip to Budapest on Sunday, bake a cake as payment for a friend who’s coming to fit a new gate for me, make sure I’ve got enough stuff for the cats as they’re staying with a friend while we’re away, and try to keep up with you lot!

Oh, and I suppose I’d better start working on my handover notes for the next poor soul who takes on TK.

I just want to say I love the nickname Tin Knickers. It’s so fun to say aloud too.

Noone, the thing is that I’ve had the indigestion longer than I’ve been here. I thought it’d get better once I started eating healthily, but it hasn’t, so that’s why I’m thinking it’s probably stress. In which case my new schedule isn’t going to help at all, I suppose.

The good thing is that I’m only teaching two programs, so I’ll only have to prep twice a week.

::yawn::

Nice OP, kai, and CUTE puppies!

That’s all until I wake up.

Wow, what a wonderfully descriptive OP, kai–it sounds so beautiful! And thanks for the pics of the pups, they’re all so cute, especially that pic of LittleBoy.

Haze, I was concerned when I heard on the news about the riots in Seoul about the decision to import US beef again, so please be careful! And good thoughts being sent your way for your doctor’s appointment.

Caffeination in progress … more later today!

Ooh! Puppy pics!
Morning, everyone!

Beautiful description, kai! And pretty puppies.

Stress? You’ve been stressed? We had no idea.

Off to get ready for work…

GT

Nice OP Kai! The puppies are so keeeeeeeyoooooooote!

Haze hope everything is ok. Good luck with teaching.

Up, caffienated, brekkied and purtified for work. Gotta go soon. Only one and a half days of work this week! YAY!!!

Later Y’all!

What a strange thing to miss, a muskeg, but I do thanks in large part to your description. We’ve decided to leave Bigville within a year or so because we need to be closer to the wilds. Yea.

Kai, them’s some ridiculously cute puppers.

What a lovely OP! And the puppies are so keeyoooote!

Mr Rebo swapped out the front door with the new one this weekend. 'Cept he got totally frustrated and it was hot and humid and he just couldn’t take it anymore! He called somebody to get the damn thing leveled and to finish installing it. They’re coming today. I’m glad. He works so hard, and he’s such a perfectionist - I hate to see him so pissed off and unhappy.

So then he’ll just have to drywall the inside, and finish the - hmm- what do you call it? the outer entryway, I guess. Finish the siding and trim and such. And the electrical before that, to go to our new outside lamppost, and the doorbell.

I, however, was a bit of a slug, as is my wont. I did laundry and grocery shopping, and I mowed the back yard. That was it.

Haze, I hope you start feeling better!

Have a good day, all!

Up caffeinated, off to work. Cute pom pups, kai. The End of The Road sounds better than work.

BooFae, your hand over note should just read “RUN! RUN WHILE YOU CAN!”

Funny you should say that,** Doggio**, I was considering leaving a folder behind entitled “Abandon hope all ye who enter here”.

Still no word from TK, perhaps she’s not dared to open the envelope yet.

The third handover note should read: “Prepare three notes…” :stuck_out_tongue:

**Haze *– why on Earth should you have been feeling stressed?
:frowning:

What you need is the company of some fun people that you can chill with and let your hair down without worrying to much about the consequences. Like maybe an anonymous crowd on a message board  Well, OK, maybe you’ll be missing the “fun” requirement if you choose to come here, but, hey, close enough…

  • [at the notion that I could be confused…]

I can see I’m going to have to explain the coloured paperclip concept to the next person doing my job. Then sit back and laugh when they try to make it work.

PUPPIES!

Haze, teaching 30 hours as in like, 30 hours a week?! I took 19 hours one semester, which would be less stressful than teaching, I’m sure, and thought I was going to die. Good luck!

I’ve been fairly absent this week, I had Wed/Thurs and the weekend off work, so I filled my time with… activities.

Puppies!!!

SQUEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeee!

puff puff

EEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEE!

pant pant pant

OK, I’m good now.

I really regret not taking the day off today. There doesn’t seem to be anything for me to do today, given that I’m waiting on feedback and have two things in limbo until that’s done… plus, with tomorrow being a holiday and all, it would have made for a really really nice long weekend (something I haven’t had in a while).

Meh. I guess I’ll re-read documentation so that I don’t look like I’m loafing while everyone else is working their butts off.
