Where the heck’s the new MMP??

I woke up in the middle of the night(EST), still feeling all cough-y and sneeze-y (qualifies as blurfy?) from the cold I’m finally starting to get over, just to join in with the early birds of the friendly MMP folks, and all I get is CRICKETS!

All I wuz gonna ask was “What keeps you up at night”? Figuratively, of course.

Me – I worry about the state of humanity, as we (present company excluded, of course) seem to be sliding ever more rapidly down a slope the bottom of which I do not wish to see. (is there an English teacher-rolling-in-the-grave smilie here…?) So many facets of our current existence are just…wrong, sorry.

Can’t we just take a nice walk in the woods without our electronic tethers, for example? Or have some nice food that I can eat without fretting about its origin?
“Hey honey, I gots us a wild boar for dinner tonight! Free range, even!”

“Was it eating from only organic certified woods, dear? ‘Cause, y’know, pesticides and toxins can be quite persistent in the environment…”
:frowning:

Oh, well.

On the bright side, I just had my bass gee-tar restrung. I think I’ma gonna play along to some blues.

To cheer myself up.

Happy Monday everyone, until the real MMP opens up.

FIRST!

Or second or whatever. Never had the honor before.

It’s official, this here’s the MMP.

I’m awake. :frowning:

Actually, I figured I was gonna get to start the new MMP. Oh well, life is full of disappointments. I went to be very early last night and now it’s around 2 a.m. and I’m awake and feeling ick. Hopefully the ick will leave soon and I can go back to sleep.

Now with your worries about the state of humanity, I see your point but I will counter as such:

My business is news so typically I get to see the worst of people, yet invariably I am optimistic of people and our future. If you look at history everyone has always thought the end was just around the corner, we’re falling, we’re doomed.

Far from it. In our lifetime there has been a huge explosion in conversation, communication, the exchange of ideas. Look at us , two strangers, with more to come, positing our opinions from far away. It is unlikely we shall meet face to face, speak a word heard by the other, yet our thoughts are shared and each of us learns from the other.

I am of a notion that it’s this communication that shall ultimately save mankind. Shall there be bumps in the road, shall wars happen, will some city find itself nuked in the next ten years? I believe so. But as a whole it will add to our collective wisdom and we will move on.

This week I watched a documentary about the near nuclear war of November 1983 when the Soviets misinterpreted the NATO exercise Able Archer as preparation for a sneak attack by the West. One little mistake and the world as we know it would have ended.

Today we have terrorism and a Middle East conflict that will go hot very soon when Israel strikes Iran. There is a very active cyber war going on between the West and China where the prize is national secrets.

But in the end, as people are exposed to each other, and new generations replace old, we gravitate together. Look around and see how such hot topics such as gay marriage are rapidly falling aside. What may seem like a long term process is quite short in the eyes of history, far shorter now.

Fifty years ago the races barely spoke to one another in the US. Now people engage, fall in love, marry and even have children with little consequence (for the most part.)

I for one love the chatter, the rabble rousing, the arguments that we the people engage in. Though there is a broad spectrum of people and their thinking, I believe the overall movement of humanity is positive, and ultimately we will benefit from all our good work.

Until a meteor hits us and wipes us out.

Like the dinosaurs.

Then we’ll be fucked.

Good night.

Thanks for that, 2gigch1. You are forthwith promoted to 4gig.

I actually do try to stay positive, but sometimes the state of things (worldwide, not just here in the good old US of A) just makes me crazy. We’re often our own worst enemies (humans, that is). We have so much to offer, collectively, but we seem to gnaw away at ourselves a lot.

You mention you work in news - may I ask in what capacity? (no need for personal details)

I’m a bit of a news junkie myself and often wonder if I just stopped reading all this stuff, might my mood improve?

(says the guy with a subscription to The Economist…)

oh, and sorry, Sticks and Scones - I actually didn’t intent this to BE the actual MMP…

I’m a little fuzzy on how things work here sometimes. I was just biding time until my coughing and hacking settles down so I can haz sleep.

Last week started out with me having to travel to a meeting with a freshly minted cold coming on, and my week went downhill from there, so having this Monday off was a good thing.

So, up now - not for long - medicated, no irk today.
Best wishes to y’all on this cold-ish Monday here in Far Northern Ver-mont.

uh, just out of curiosity… what do you eat for breakfast? I tend toward standard fare like ham 'n eggs, toast, coffee, etc., but I often wonder about others. My job is physically demanding and I need the boost, but many people tell me they get by with just a danish and a cuppa joe.

Care to share?

I don’t stay up at night, I just wake up too dang early.

Breakfast will vary with what’s available, that is, whether I’m at a hotel, Mom’s or my place. I prefer protein-heavy breakfasts: one egg, or dry sausage, or ham followed by milk and/or yoghurt is the most usual.

Breakfast can be pretty random for me. Instant oatmeal, cereal, dinner leftovers, sandwich of some variety, fruit, pretty much whatever we have on hand that appeals to me when I’m deciding what to eat.

This is simply ignorant. While interracial romance was rare, the ‘races’ certainly talked. Some didnt like but 1963 America wasnt exactly Nazi Germany. And in 2013 the racism directed towards interracial couples is more likely to come from other minorities.

You, sirrah, are just boringly prosaic. Or maybe a dwarf, I hear they have problems dealing with figures of speech…

Blurf.

It’s raining and will turn to snow. I wanna go back to bed, but I must get spiffy for irk.

Haha, no big deal. I just figured that I’d be the firs one to jump on the task because I was up. It wasn’t as if I had anything to say that was important. I mean mine would have been called something like “It’s the middle of the night nausea MMP.”

I have the same breakfast every morning: Utz’s honey wheat pretzel sticks, two string cheese, and 1 can of diet coke, a little carbs, a little protein and I’m good.

Yeah, I agree with Nava. I don’t think that you got what he was saying at all.

So, now I a awake once again and trying to decide what to get done first. Probably my technology homework because it is the quietest thing I can do at this early hour.

**coldblood **- the first post of the week that includes MMP in the title is, in fact, the official MMP. So whether you intended it or not, you started it. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not working today either - with all this budget and sequester and impending furlough nonsense, the world of gummint contractors is pretty well bogged down. I have literally done just about everything I can do at work, and I can’t just go in and occupy space to collect a paycheck, so I’ll play the happy homemaker/retiree today.

I’m up because I’m always up by now - in fact, I’m usually at my desk by now. I’ve fed the doggeh and let her out several times. Cat box is clean, and I’m caffeinating. **FCD **is still in bed.

I was surprised to see snow on the ground, and it’s still falling, altho rain seems to be mixing in with it now. The temp is right at freezing and it’s not supposed to get out of the 30s today. On the other hand, tomorrow is now forecast to be sunny - I guess this system is moving faster than they’d anticipated. Heck of a spring, huh?

I can’t really do any chores till my sweetie gets up and goes to the office, so I’m forced to read the comics and Dear Abby - I shall try to endure.

Happy Monday anyway!

Thanks for starting us off, 'froid. We love when a newbie jumps up like that.

Pain and Nature calling keeps me up at night. But usually I fight thru it and go back to sleep. Then the cat jumps on me and triggers Nature’s Call again, so I blurf around, feed her, and if possible go back to sleep. Otherwise I get ready for work. Or put on the coffee and call in sick - like today.

I have to have some sort of protein for breakfast or I am done for the day by 11:00 am. I have never understood how people can start their day on nothing but carbs and fat. Don’t get me wrong - I love a good bagel-n-shmear or toasted buttered banana muffin - but I gotta have some yogurt or cheese with it.

Got a text Saturday that I’m a grampaw. Not a misspelling.

VunderKind came home from the Humane Society with a 7 year old, 14 lb neutered tomcat. Told him I thought I raised him better than that, his adoptee should bark, not meow.

Don’t have a picture yet. Hell, he still owes me moving pictures, too.

Can I haz weekend? Please! Seriously, I need two (or three?) days to get thru everything that was on the list but didn’t get done over the past two days. I’s so far behind I’m just barely ahead of the next group, barely. Irk for the next two days is calls…all day. :frowning:

There is white falling from the sky & the grass, trees & neighbors cars are white. The paved surfaces are starting to get slushy white also. Got everything back in the basement late last night, so that means the car is back in the garage & therefore, not white.

Breakfast = two bowls of cereal. Then there’s usually a min-morning snack also.

Up, caffienated, off to irk. I slept quite soundly.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, caffienated and at irk. 'Tis a chilly 42 (wind chill 35) Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 59 for the day and a wind chill advisory in effect until 7 P.M. EDT. I always here weather advisories in italics for some reason.

Thanks for startin’ us off coldblood! I think that shall stick as your nickname. Hope you feel better soon. Not much keeps me up at night. If the world is gonna blow up, a meteor is gonna crash into my bedroom, my hair falls out overnight, etc. it’s gonna happen whether or not I stay up worryin’ about it. My bladder, however, likes to get up at night. I say I’ve pulled an all nighter if I don’t wake up and have to go pee.

Here’s hopin’ the ick has gone away StickyBuns!

Congrats grampaw BBBobbio!

Oh and the reason I did not post from da cave early this mornin’ is that I got myself all ready and came in to irk early because I just knew there would be a power problem this mornin’ and I was right! We had a biiiiiig tstorm Sattidy night/Sunday mornin’. I can just about count on the fact that a circuit breaker will trip when that happens and sho’ ‘nuff! Thus the phones are daid, well, except for one that has a backup battery. Should make for some fun times as it’ll take most of the day for the cordless phones to recharge. On the plus side, thank Og for laptops with batteries. Anywho, the breaker has been untripped and power is up and runnin’.

Happy Monday Y’all!

OMGOMGOMGOMGTHEWORLDISCOMIN’TOANENDOMGOMGOMG!!!

I left my cellphone at da cave. Is the apocalypse nigh???:eek::eek:

My ick is gone, thank you. Although I feel as if I’d be better off just going back to bed and starting all over again.
