Hi, I'm New Here

I brought pie,

http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/recipe_keylimepie.htm

sort of.

Really just starting a thread to introduce myself. I’ve been lurking for about a year. Mostly reading in CS and MPSIMS, but a bit everywhere really.

So, hi.

You can’t get off that easily. You still need to bring pie when you come back!

Hey, pie! Well, I don’t eat it, but still nice of you to bring it. Welcome to the boards, rosewater.

BTW, I use you all the time when making Indian desserts. What are you doing out of my fridge? Can I sniff you?

Do I actually have to leave, or should there have been one in this post?

I should have said, but the name is from Vonnegut, my favorite author. You may sniff me anyway if you like.

Welcome me old cock.

When bringing pie it’s a good idea to also bring beer…lots of beer.

BTW I’ve been to Chicago and think it’s a great city apart from that bloody baseball.

I spent over 2 hours at Wrigley getting bored outta my brains

I do not see how anyone could be bored at Wrigley, unless you were there when the Cubs weren’t playing. Baseball is an excellent sport. (being charitable, I am including what the Cubs play in Baseball). I will decline from mentioning boredom levels that day I spent at Lords. (Actually I enjoyed it greatly.)

Was the goat ever found, or did we order a new one? What about the squid? Prepped and ready?

I’ll go boil the forceps.

Oh, Hi rosewater!

Welcome!

(Mm, Key lime, my favorite!)

Yep the Cubs were playing and if I ‘member correctly it was one of the longest EVER games played. I did buy a Cubs shirt and baseball cap tho’ and also went in that restaurant by the river that was owned by some guy who had a goat or summink. I recall a curse being put on Wrigley Field but forget all about why.

Cricket??? you watched cricket…my God you sure are a glutton for punishment.
Personally I’d rather walk around town with a nail in my shoe than watch cricket

As I remember the goat curse…

In 1945, the Cubs made it to the World Series for the first time in years. The owner of the Billy Goat Tavern bought two tickets to see game 1, one for him and one for his favorite goat. Upon presenting himself to the gate he was informed that the goat could not enter the ballpark, even with a ticket. The tavern owner was furious and pronounced a curse that henceforth the Cubs would never again win the World Series. They duly lost in 1945 and have not been back since. The Cubs management has tried many times to lift the curse, including haveing the son of the tavern owner bring the grandson of the goat into the park. They do this, or something similar, every time it looks like the Cubs are getting close to possibly winning enough to make the playoffs, which they would have to win to make the World Series.

Oh, and,

I am not a cricket fan, per se. I was living in England for some years and was intrigued by the sport and watched it enough to get an idea of the rules (I believe a complete understanding by any one person is impossible). At some point I was offered a ticket to see a test match at Lords. How could I pass that up?

Welcome to the Boards and Hurray for another baseball fan.

Enjoy your stay and by this evening the offers of drinks and squids should be forthcoming.

Jim

Welcome!

not so sure about the squids.

When they start talking about the Vat O’ Jell-O and the velcro jumpsuit, run and hide.

That sounds much more fun than squids.

Welcome, Rosie! Some game last night, huh? (I’m from Houston.)

For unknowing non-baseball fans, The Chicago Cubs beat the Houston Astros 8-6 last night in 18 innings. 18 innings is a lot of innings.

The Astros suck.

I like pie.

The Astros suckiness is exceeded by that of the Cubs (most nights)

I am a huge Cubs fan, but have realistic expectations.

18 innings could, in fact, be two complete games.
