I am hosting a trivia night under the theme Hide and Seek. I chose this theme because I wanted something different from “History” etc.
I have come up questions that deal with people who have sought things or things that have been found. I have a music round of popular songs that are written by other famous people (such as Fire by the Pointer Sisters which was written by Bruce Springsteen).
I am playing loosely with the Hide and Seek theme but I would like suggestions for questions or topics. Any ideas out there?
17th and 18th Century piracy had plenty of hide & seek going on.
For your music round, throw in some stuff by Carole King. She wrote a lot of the songs that were sung by other people. Songs such as: “Chains”, “The Locomotion”, “Will You Love Me Tomorrow”, and “Up on the Roof”. Here is a link to Wikipedia’s article on her discography: Carole King - Wikipedia.
Poe’s “The Purloined Letter” involves hiding something in plain sight.
Also, some of the greatest works of camouflage in World War II were created by Jasper Maskelyne, who was able to “hide” entire cities. Jasper Maskelyne - Wikipedia.
You gotta include some stuff about Dr. Livingstone!
I just found out on another thread here that “Blinded By the Light” was also written by Bruce Springsteen.
May I suggest a couple questions about the works of Robert Louis Stevenson and Indian religion.
Something about the group The Seekers?
Bob Dylan and Prince are also well known writers of songs others have made famous. (Particularly noteworthy is “All Along the Watchtower” which Dylan did record, but commented after Hendrix covered it that Hendrix did a much better version.)
And continuing the Bruce Springsteen thing, “Because the Night” was also written by him originally. The version sung by Patti Smith (later covered by the 10,000 Maniacs) was slightly modified by Smith to be from a woman’s perspective. Springsteen and Smith had the same recording producer at the time and Patti loved the song when she heard Springsteen’s recording of it.
