High school graduation ceremony; is attendance really achoice?

I went to my high school graduation, my class was teentsy, so it was more like a small group of very close friends celebrating a rite of passage, a really great experience. Plus, I designed and painted the backdrop which turned out incredible, if I do say so myself ;), so 'twould have been a shame not to go.
On the other hand, my university undergraduate class had something like five thousand kids. They practically begged us not to sign up to walk. Which I gladly did not do. Walk, that is. Celebrating with a small, tightly knit group of close friends is one thing, but being herded around like a bunch of cattle in a crowd so huge that no one will ever recognize you, and of which I knew maybe ten people, total, was not my idea of a good time.
