High speed internet options?

I moved to a new place but the options for internet here are not very good.

I can only get 784k from AT&T for DSL which seems very low. They claim they don’t have any more slots for anything at a higher speed. Cable and Uverse are not available here.

My landlord has 3 Mb from AT&T so I am using his router but that is just a temp solution.

Is 784k even worth getting from AT&T? Is going wireless with Verizon , AT&T a better option?

The internet at my grandparent’s is only slightly better, hovering around .86 Mb/s. It gets the job for just about everything. I can even watch netflix, provide i’m patient enough to let it buffer for 20-25 minutes or so.
