Highlited Subjects

There are 5 different computers on which I am cookied. I thought that the highlighted subject (those threads that I have read) were done by username. But I have noticed that sometimes the thread name is not highlighted, even though I know I’ve read it.

So, is this done by ISP or username? It only matters because I will quickly scroll down a page to check threads I have already looked at first before I begin bothering other people with my ramblings.

Just a WAG on my part.

It’s not cumulative through all cookies, just through the individual cookies, so if you read on different computers each one will show differently.

The tracking is rough at best, anyway; there’s no way we could have a system big enough to maintain records of the total usage of every member.

Actually, the user isn’t even checked, just the computer.
It was telling me the last time someone was logged on before I actually signed up.

And they have a message when you log out that says “Clearing all cookies”, but it doesn’t. There’s still one there, but so small it must just have the last date visited. So, the next time you come here it has some envelopes lit before you actually sign in.

The visited links are kept in your profile on each computer by URL. If you visit a URL (for a thread or even a non-SDMB site) on one computer, this will have no effect on a different computer. This has nothing to do with cookies. That is, links visited on a computer will be hilighted even if you don’t accept cookies.

Biggirl, visited links are stored in the history preferences file of your browser.
