OK, so I assume I was the only one who thought the Bonnie Tyler video stopped being funny at the instrumental part?
That one was my family’s favorite line. We quoted it the rest of the day. (Saturday)
My oldest child sent it to her friends, which is a compliment of the highest order for her.
Thanks cmosdes!
I agree there. It started trying too hard when they went with dialog. It was much funnier when it was more subtle like “Ringo Starr?.. Lined eyes.” (with a close up of Bonnie Tyler wearing so much eye-liner, Tammy Faye would find it whorish.)
Nope, I don’t like that part at all, but I put up with it because the rest is totally brilliant.
The instrumental part is pretty meh (I do like “You’re making it wooooorse!”), but afterwards, with the possessed choir boys and Lord of the Flies and all that–that’s my favorite part. Who thought that guys in diapers was a good idea?
I’d like to see Duran Duran’s “Wild Boys” done literally; I’m sure someone is working on it right now. But I think this is as good as it gets in this genre; you can’t beat the ninjas.
Oooooh…“Union of the Snake” would be a good one, too. There’s so much crazy-ass non-sequitur going on in that video, it would be PERFECT!
Yeah, thirded or fourthed or whatever. That seems to be a common problem with all the literal videos. They feel they need to do something to fill in the instrumental breaks and it’s never as funny. The rest is brilliant enough. It’s way above all the others.
I sugest “Rock Me, Amadeus.” Mozart and biker gang. Think of the possibilities!
For that matter, didn’t one of the members used to be a member here?
No. He was in a different, older band–maybe Western Union?
That’s awesome. I was expecting something else though - when I was in college three of my friends did a lip sync to that song for the annual caberet, which was ‘literal’ in the sense of that they did things like turn around every time the song says "turn around’ etc. I thought maybe someone stumbled on a clip of that lol.
The song was “Western Union”. The band was the Five Americans.
anderson cooper had a good time with this video on his show last night.
Me too.
It gets funny again after that nonsense.
I saw the “Take on Me” one a while ago and spent too much time watching a bunch of similar videos. Somehow I missed “Total Eclipse of the Heart.” Thank you!
This is the funniest one I’ve seen, but the singing is pretty bad, which means it just can’t be my favorite. I like “Head Over Heels” the best.
See, I loved that part simply for its MST3Kness…
I thought the singing was pretty good, in that the girl sounds a lot like Bonnie Tyler–she has a similar voice. Compared to the majority of these videos, the singing is great. (I can’t stand the bad ones.)
Head over Heels was my favorite song when I was about 12, so I have a soft spot for it and like the literal video a lot.
I discovered this Journey song yesterday and liked it pretty well. Singing not great, but the video is pretty funny and I like the words.
It’s been a while since we’ve discussed literal videos, but this one for “Billie Jean” is a riot.
I recently discovered this genre as well. The first one I saw was Total Eclipse from the Heart which had me in stitches. For a rap song, check out Biz Markie’s Just a friend, the literal version.
My favorites, aside from Total Eclipse, are White Wedding, I Would Do Anything for Love, and these two:
Sweet Dreams Are Made of This (this is one my all time favorite videos)
The Safety Dance (“I’m insane!”)
