Couldn’t sleep and was up waaaay too early. Caught this on the local news channel.
I love Andi's (the female anchor) reaction! :D“Nobody else will tell you this stuff.”
“Okay.”
Toronto’s Channel 24 Cable News has an early-morning anchor who not only looks like a TOS-era Bill Shatner but must also have taken diction lessons from him. I swear, it’s like watching Captain Kirk read the news!*
*As an aside, I used to do this all the time when I was working in radio!
That’s not a blooper. That’s just a guy I’m embarrassed for.
I had no idea Ron Burgundy was based on a real person.
“Tons of them!”
How is that a blooper?
News 2, penetrating to the heart of every story.
Burrowing deep into every story, probing its essence!
Here’s an opportunity to ask something I’ve always wanted to know when I see this type of thing posted. How is it that you were watching the local news and just happened to be recording it at the same time? How were you capturing the recording so it could then be posted on YouTube? I can’t pull video off my DVR.
Only way it could have been better would be if he closed with “…and go fuck yourself, Winnemucca”.
Traditional DVRs have a USB port, so if you recorded something (e.g., if the OP was recording this news broadcast), you can transfer the recording to a USB drive. However, I think the cable company has to enable the device for this function to work, and my understanding was that they don’t usually do that.
It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, but just haven’t had the time to figure out. In my case, I’d like to do the same thing with DirecTV.
Yeah, not a blooper, but a prime candidate to be featured on The Soup.
Proof: What happens in Vegas… Does Not… stay in Vegas.
I expect that DVRs are probably pretty easy to modify to enable such downloading, even without the cable company’s permission. Though I’ve no idea how to do so myself, and wouldn’t be saying even if I did.
That “okay” was so perfectly delivered.
I’ve always assumed these are captured by people who have rolled their own DVR in the form of a Media Center PC or XBMC-powered device. Heck, there are even versions using the Raspberry Pi (and a USB capture card).
And, of course, they’re systems are set up to record absolutely everything in the last X minutes, just like a real DVR is (for rewind purposes), so of course they had it recorded.
Also, there’s no inherent reason to assume the OP recorded this himself–he could have just looked it up online after seeing it. Though, if he did record it himself, I’d love the insight.
I don’t think there was the assumption that the OP was the one who recorded it: I think the “you” in that post was generic, and directed to whoever-it-was who did record it.
You’ve got to break the same security that prevents you from tuning to premium channels you haven’t paid for, which cable companies and manufacturers are very serious about. So no, it’s not “pretty easy”.
Steve Scully remains the gold standard.
