I work in Highgate and I assure you, it’s in Adelaide. The phone numbers listed in the ad are old Adelaide phone numbers too. Mind you, I sat here thinking, “nothing’s changed. Horrid eastern suburbs Adelaide people…oh…D’OH!!”

They had a great video with a blacked up South African comedian hassling whites at a pretend checkpoint outside a majority white town, anyone else remember that one?

It’s in Western Australia. I live right around the corner from Smith Street and I remember this clip doing the rounds from years ago as the reporter and the show it was from were based in WA. Considering the age of the clip too, the phone numbers could have been relevant to several states. While I can’t be 100% certain, I’m pretty sure the suburbs listed either side of Highgate in the ad would be High W(ycombe) and (Heat)hridge, both suburbs in WA.
That video is in serious need of some English subtitles. (beyond the heavy accent, there’s also a lot of background noise)

The old guy is talking about (Real Estate) Agents. Not Asians.
I can see how the newspaper could have misunderstood him.
What he actually said was ‘no agents’ - estate agents, I assume. ie: Only people interested in renting the place for themselves, not acting as a go-between.

Could someone explain the South African comedian video to me though, I can’t understand that one one bit. First, are they even speaking English? And what is the purpose of the checkpoint?
IIRC, the town the checkpoint was setup outside was thoroughly white South African. In the first bit the comedian just seems to insult the white guys, in the next he lets someone black through, then hands the “toll” to a young black boy to buy some Coke at a shop nearby, which obviously enrages the farmer.
Makes me wonder, why would you smile and give permission for Candid Camera to show you up as a bit of a racist? And I’m guessing the other language spoken by the white guys was Afrikaans.
