Hillary and Sniper Fire in Bosnia: What's the Defense?

Shayna, don’t forget the Rassmussen poll released today that shows Obama closing the gap on Clinton’s lead…they’re now 49/39, a 10-point gap, instead of her 18 point lead earlier this month.

Al Qaeda’s presence in Iraq is negligable, by State department estimates there are anywhere from 800-1000 aQ operatives in Iraq. Their numbers are insignificant and they are only there because we’re giving them American targets to shoot at. The Sunni insurgents don’t even want them there. If we leave, aQ has no reason to stay there. McCain’s riposte was specious at best, and as we’ve seen, he doesn’t even know the difference between al Qaeda and the insurgency (or between Sunni and Shia).

That is excellent, jajay! And better still, that poll doesn’t appear to take this Big Bosnia Blunder into effect. When they include questions about this scam in the next polls, I expect the gap to grow even narrower.

I’d go with the CNN story quoting her as having been told to move quickly due to “threat of sniper fire” and the way the plane landed.

She never said she was ducking bullets and that there WAS actual sniper fire. That would be absurd in any case.

But it’s parsing, the way she put it, at best and lying at worst. Not good when you’re “under fire” about your credentials.

She needs to softsell her foreign policy experience rather than come off as the other way around.

Basic rule of selling: always underpromise and overdeliver rather than overpromise and underdeliver.

That is good news for Obama. But the same thing happened in Ohio and then she still won. Folks that look at the “Big Bosnia Blunder” in PA aren’t going to conclude in large numbers that her version of events – whatever it is – makes Obama more qualified. He wasn’t even there. And as far as lying, I think their mortgages will be seen as more important than a known, experienced politician exaggerating. Doubt they’ll care. Perceptions of lying hurt relative unknowns more than well-known political vets that already hold a lead. I doubt her lead is due to those PA folks thinking she’s a straight arrow.

:: sigh ::

I’ve always liked Chelsea Clinton but it’s beginning to appear the apple hasn’t fallen far from the tree.

Her response when asked about sniper fire on the trip to Bosnia:

“Well sir, I think that my mother’s on record as having talked about this and I support what she said. I mean, I was there as well and I’m so honored that I was there.” Link.

Typical Clintonian non-answer leaving lots of wiggle room followed by a phony, faux-humble comment having nothing to do with the question at hand.

Damn, I’m tired of these people! You can almost predict what they’ll not say and how they’ll not say it before they ever open their mouths.

What answer could she have given that would have made you ‘proud’? Seriously.

This just sounds like a daughter not wanting to trash her mother in the press. It’s basically a non-responsive, “whatever my mom said, I support. Fuck off.” I would expect a Chelsea to show some family loyalty and refrain from publicly stabbing her mother in the back. That’s not politics, just human decency.

I’m always amazed at how the most photographed, most recorded, most seen people can forget about all that recorded history so easily.

I like Hilary…a lot. And I can even see how a memory can morph into something bigger or more dramatic than it was. But damn…you need to keep that shit straight if you’re using it as a tool to make yourself look more viable then the other guy. I’m sure they have people pouring through archives to double check her every word. She knows this. Stupid mistake by a very bright woman.

He’s got a month to close the gap to zero, or plus one in his favor.

If he does, it’s all over.

Think he can do it?

Truthfully? I don’t know. The characterization of Pennsylvania being Pittsburgh and Philadelphia with Alabama in the middle (that’s Alabama withOUT the relatively large African-American population) is a little too close to true for my comfort. On the other hand, Pennsylvania has more colleges and universities than any other state, I think, and all those students can vote here if they’re registered (and I seriously doubt the Obama canvassers have ignored the campuses).

I’m not confident enough to say he’ll win. I am confident enough to predict that he’s going to close the gap enough to make her win insignificant in the larger scheme of things. Conventional Wisdom says she’s going to win BIG. If he can keep her win small or a virtual tie or even eke out a very, very narrow win himself, he blows her out of the water and the supers may start moving at that point.

*Note the registration deadline for voting in the primary here closed yesterday, I believe. Anyone who hasn’t already registered or changed their registration to Democrat is crap out of luck for the primary.

**I changed my affiliation from Independent to Democrat last week, solely so I could add a vote to the Obama column…

Wait, is Chelsea an official member of the campaign?

ETA: that’s a question referencing post #106.

Yeah, and she’ll be waving all her limbs and staring at us with one big eye still insisting “I am Clin-ton.”

Agreed. Chelsea’s been put in an impossible position in this mess.

A few words…

If a person was willing to truly chance sniper fire - in a very credible way - in service to the USA… it might not make them CiC material, but it would at least prove their commitment to their cause or the country.

I think she was embellishing some, but… I doubt it was conscious. If she was poopooing Sinbad (and she was) she knew it was getting press - to take it further UP in rhetoric was a mistake - a mistake large enough I don’t believe she’d make.

She IS desperate. She DOES view herself rather highly. She is more than hurting herself at this point - and for what? Really?

Yeah, he didn’t even get to lie about a meaningless photo op.

Obama just has no experience where it counts. :dubious:

Here’s an interestingly-phrased description of what Clinton will need to do to take the nomination - exercise the “Tonya Harding” option (the combined photos of Hillary and Tonya Harding on the abcnews.com main page are priceless):

*"What will she have to do to Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, in order to eke out her improbable victory?

She will have to “break his back,” the (Democratic party) official said. She will have to destroy Obama, make Obama completely unacceptable.

“Her securing the nomination is certainly possible - but it will require exercising the ‘Tonya Harding option.’” the official said. “Is that really what we Democrats want?”*

I hope I’m wrong, but I think the Clintonians will be shoveling a lot more dirt in the weeks to come, both to try to bury Obama and cover up Hillary’s “minor blips”.

That would help dig the Democratic Party’s grave in November.

Well some here are on record as saying that until Obama has the 2025 votes it isn’t over; it’s not over while there is any chance whatsoever. And it wouldn’t be impossible even if he wins PA by one percent. She could still win the rest and somehow convince the supers that he is unelectable. Highly highly unlikely but not impossible.

Maybe a bit more impossible than if he merely prevents a blow-out and keeps her victory under 20, or better yet under 15%. But not much. Without a 26% plus blow-out Clinton is unlikely to catch-up to Obama in the popular vote, let alone keep it going into NC. Even with blow-outs she is not going to catch up in pledged delegates or even get the deficit under 100. With a sizable pledged delegate loss and a popular vote loss the supers will not go to Clinton by the two to one margin she’d need.

So she needs a 26% blow-out to have a meaningful shot. Think she can do it?

Obama win PA? I doubt it but it is more of a possibility than that. Most likely it will be a Hillary victory by 10 to 15%. Enough for the media to keep the farce alive a bit longer but not enough to actually keep her hopes alive. Under that and even the media will have to pronounce her dead.

Back to the op … y’know Bill lied regularly too (obviously), but at least he was charming while he did it and lied better than this. Hillary - all the lies and none of the charm. Bad combo.

Any one up for a favorite Hillary “misspeak” contest? Call it the Ms. Misspeak awards. This one is an easy nomination. Points for sheer baldfacedness and for creativity. Her general claim of executive experience in the White House is perhaps more important. Her claim of always being against NAFTA when she is on record promoting it could get a few votes. The field can get plenty crowded plenty fast. Get your nominations in early!

If she wins by 15%, how is her campaign a farce?

And if Obama can’t beat Hillary in PA in March, how is he going to beat McCain in Nov.?

I was wondering when someone in either the military or the Secret Service was going to speak out. . .

Yeah, no shit. I’d say she lost quite a few military votes with this tall tale.

If he can keep it close it mean sshe gets no closer to winning the nod. Should Obama continue on his course and win the nod quite a few Clinton Dems will back him. More than enough to beat McCain in the national election. GOP numbers for people going to the polls pale in comparison to the entire Dem croud that has come out for the simple primaries [not-so-simple]. A mere fraction would have to jump from supporting Clinton to Obama and he’s trounce McCain in November. I see more than just a fraction backing him to get a dem in the white house. The republicans know it too. Teetering on being even or slighly ahead of McCain in the naitonal polls means Obama has a lot of time to work a winning strategy and upping thos numbers by double digits before November. People should not underestimate the dems this year. Once we have our nominee we’re going to be a much stronger force than McCain and his minions. If he has any.
