Hillary Clinton's Presidential Campaign Discussion

So, you live in Louisiana? Here’s the Governor discussing a Presidential visit:

After Katrina, Bush was criticized for the slow & inefficient FEMA response.

nope.
worked there long time ago though.

i see you also forgot Obama’s bashing of Bush doing flyover of N.O. on way back to D.C.

that’s ok.
folks can see thru all this bs that’s going on.

Yes, like Trump deciding that the requests of government officials, and the resources needed for that area, are less important than his photo op appearance in a state that would vote for him anyway.

As always, Trump disrespects others for his own self-aggrandizing.

The governor of Louisiana specifically asked President Obama to delay his visit. Bush’s tardy flyover was the cherry on top of FEMA incompetence. “Brownie, you’re doing a heck of a job.” This article explains how Bush’s response to Katrina damaged his presidency. (I haven’t “forgot” anything; I know the full story.)

From the article I linked previously:

So it’s just an act. The American people can see through Trump’s “bs.” (Your prose style is really irritating; it does not add to your credibility. Reality is too complex to describe in poorly formatted sentence fragments.)

We can certainly all see through your running in here with the latest Fox News Channel propaganda.

images of the flood have been playing all week on tv stations across the USA .
Trump’s visit was on tv all today and tonight.

we’ll see how entire nation views this by next week.

Obama’s golfing w/ elites may not look so cool by then ?
we’ll see.

CNN has Seventies show on right now.
MSNBC has " sex slaves " on right now.

yes , i watch FNC.

Oh, ya, Trump is getting great press:

Trump tours flooded Louisiana, Obama to visit next week

no big surprise that he’d say that.
Govenor Edwards is a Dem. in Louisiana.

No surprise he would say that. He’s President of the United States and the needs of his citizenry comes before the need for a photo-op with a Roger Ailes plant asking well-timed questions.

I understand what the governor said and I understand the fact that Obama truly believes it’s better to stay away from Louisiana until the disaster is over. And yes, FEMA is on it. Intellectually, all of that makes sense.

But despite our obvious political differences, john is probably correct in his assessment of the situation in the eyes of ordinary people. They’re going to look at this and ask why is the president of the United States out playing golf when one of the worst natural disasters in recent memory is unfolding. Obama didn’t stay out of New Jersey when he met with Gov. Christie in 2012, just a few days before the election.

It remains to be seen how both sides will spin this and whether there will be lasting consequences. It seems that both Clinton and Trump are benefiting from a very active Trump-dominated news cycle and the Olympics.

Obama hates black people.

Yup, we can be quite confident that Clinton will now lose Louisiana.

So, from the POV of actually doing something that helps, Trump is obviously doing nothing that helps by going there for a photo-op and stating how really incredible it is there, and clearly Obama is behaving as the President should. From that helping perspective Clinton would be not helping by visiting there.

The discussion, such as it is, is what is better from the POV of getting Clinton or Trump elected, the Realpolitik of it.

And in that regard both Clinton and Trump have played this badly, IMHO.

Clinton has been quiet about the floods there until after Trump went. Then she tweets on it and calls for people to donate to relief efforts. The narrative that can hurt her is that poor rural Whites think that their lives do not matter. It in this case really is the mirror image of the NOLA flooding but in this case if those impacted were poor Black (or wealthy White for that matter) she’s have been all over it. Not visiting but talking about it more and earlier.

She may win the presidency without support from lower SES rural Whites but making House progress would be more likely if she at least lowered the margin of her loss in that demographic.

And Trump playing only to his demographic strength is stupid. Trump spending time in states that are not under any reasonable stretch of the imagination battleground, when he is this much down, dumb.

Clinton first tweeted about the floods four days ago, on Aug. 16, suggesting donations to the Red Cross, before Trump had said a word about it or tied up resources for his little photo op. Nice try at false equivalence, though.

Trump’s only path to victory is to win 65% of white voters. He really doesn’t have a choice but to try to run up the score among whites. That probably goes for most Republicans following him too. Get to 65%, then 70%, then 75%, and the other demographics are irrelevant. And it’s a lot easier as this point than winning more Latino or African-American votes.

MSNBC has shows about sex slaves.

FNC has actual sex slaves on the air.

I figured it out. john L is Rorschach!

“Politician’s carcass in Louisiana this morning, bad hair on orange head. This country’s afraid of him. It’s seen his true face…”

Bush was scolded because FEMA was a mess and the Feds did a terrible job of helping initially (or not helping). It wasn’t solely because Bush didn’t go in immediately for a photo op

It would just be theater really, but I do agree that in an election year, you need to be mindful of the optics. Obama probably should have gone off vacation once it became apparent the floods were really bad and been more visible (at the White House) making sure things got done as well as playing up how much FEMA and others were helping. As I said, it would have just been playing theater, but you gotta grab the optics when politics is involved

This.

But hey. Trump was doing his part to help Louisiana flood victims get over the devastating play-doh shortage. What a hero! He spent all of 49 seconds helping too!
