Hillary Clinton's Presidential Campaign Discussion

Yeah, but presumably Chris Rock’s wife doesn’t write his material for him or otherwise involve herself in the comedy business. It wasn’t just that Hillary was the First Lady, it was that she was a politically active first lady (remember the old “Impeach the President and her husband too!” bumper stickers?). If Chris Rock’s wife was Executive Producer of Everybody Hates Chris, managed his career for a few years and co-wrote a movie or two…yeah, I’d consider her qualified to do comedy too.

I concede that Clinton was more involved in the Clinton administration than Chris Rock’s wife is in his career, but her role was more that of an activist or at best an advisor. She was equivalent to someone like George Stephanopolous within the administration, although her actual influence was equal to Al Gore’s, at least.

But a President, unlike a First Lady, doesn’t get to choose what he will be interested in. When the phone call comes in at 3am, the President has to deal with the problem no matter what it is, whereas a First Lady can say, “I want to do health care!” or “I want to reform school lunches!” Clinton had no substantive role in foreign policy, economic policymaking, or running the federal government.

So First Lady is experience of a sort, but her Senate and SecState tenures is where she truly gained relevant experience. She is well qualified to be President now, just not as amazingly qualified as she likes to think. Her real education in government started in 2001.

Your arguments on this board don’t fail to gain traction because we’re all liberal; they fail to do so because most of them are based almost entirely on your personal opinions rather than actual facts.

Any chance of some of those cites people have asked for?

If you don’t already know the left arguments against Clinton, you haven’t been paying attention to Bernie Sanders’ campaign, or Obama’s eight years ago. Nor have you been watching the Daily Show, or Colbert, or Real Time…

You also apparently don’t read this board much.

Way to completely not read his post.

Hillary should definitely consider Juan Castro the Mayor of San Antonio Texas as her Veep Choice. This would firm up her base with Hispanics and almost certainly make it impossible for Trump to win in November. Obama beat Romney with Latinos by winning 74% of this group. If Hillary can win by 74% or better then she would almost be certain to win the election in November!

Well, I’m sure the Clintons and the DNC can’t be too thrilled with this:

McCauliffe, former DNC head and former manager of the CLintons’ campaigns. This only strengthens the Sanders argument that he’s fighting corrupt institutions.

[shrug] Hillary does not really have to worry about Sanders at this point, and the Dems at least show well as against the Pubs so far as “corrupt institutions” are concerned.

Julian Castro. The current mayor of San Antonio is Ivy Taylor.

Why do you believe this? The 2012 electorate was something like 78% white, 11% black and 7% hispanic. 2016 will be quite similar, maybe a point or two less white and a point or two more hispanic.

Clinton is currently losing whites by 24 points. Obama lost them by 20. If Clinton’s “white deficit” grows worse, say to 30 points, then no matter how many hispanic or black votes she reels in, it won’t matter, she’ll lose.

(if my math is right, 65% of the white vote - a 30-point deficit - in 2012 would have been just over 50% of the total)

Terry Mac is like Clinton, always skates the line but never crosses it. He’ll get away with it legally, as he should, and it’s not as if everyone didn’t already know that this is how he operates.

Clinton Declines To Participate In Fox News Dem Debate

No surprise. There’s far more downside than upside to debating Sanders for her at this point. Still, she did agree to one more outstanding debate; if it doesn’t happen in California, I assume it won’t happen at all.

Declining was a good move on Hillary’s part. Stop wasting time on Bernie, he’s done. Focus your time, effort and money on the real competition, the November opponent. This will probably give the old man something else to bitch about, but it will just be lost in the static of his constant complaints about everything else.

Besides, it would have been on Fox. No need to give them an opening, especially not right now.

True. There’s a lot of questions she’d rather not answer.

“Why did you not do more to save Vince Foster?” probably top among them, right Adaher?

You know that’s not going to come up at a Fox debate, and if it did, it would help her. She’d be THRILLED to be asked that.

What she’d actually be asked are the kinds of questions she got asked by Fox in 2008, such as “Was Ross Perot right about NAFTA?”

Why Mark Cuban? What would Hillary possibly gain from him being her VP?

Nothing at all. She won’t pick Cuban. Trump might.

I’m getting annoyed with the whole “Well I’m a billionaire businessman, so I know I’d be, like, great at running a bureaucracy I know nothing about.”

For the last effing time – appreciate the support that public sector gives the private sector and stop making this fallacious assumption that because someone has private sector success that he knows a thing about running government. If Cuban wants to get his feet wet, try being mayor of Dallas or governor of Texas. Just because he can buy the White House doesn’t mean he ought to run it.
