October 13, 2015, Clinton, Sanders, Webb, O’Malley and Chafee debated. :dubious:
Thing is the Clintons want to create this dynasty. Sort of like the Kennedy’s, and want to keep their influence on the world stage.
You can tell they were hoping that Chelsea would be an up and coming political star but it just isnt happening. Their stars are slowly fading and they know it.
BTW, say what you want about the Bush’s but after they were out of office they quietly went back to civilian life.
Yeah, I mean, you can feel it right there in your gut, right?
Wow, demanding investigations of political opponents to take them out of the game – that’s brilliant! I can’t believe no one ever thought of that before.
Democrats didn’t win in 2018 because republicans voted democrat, they won because younger voters bothered to turn out.
People under the age of 53 cast 27 million more votes in 2018 than they did in 2014, while people over the age of 54 only cast 4 million more votes in 2018 vs 2014.
If democrats want to win they have to keep voter turnout high. Moderate republicans have a role in the party, but a party devoted to moderate republican principles will result in lower voter turnout. Lots of those young people may stay home if the democratic party is nothing more than a DLC, third way party. Support for Bernie is much higher among voters under 40 than it is for older voters.
The best thing to come out of this thread is the news that I somehow qualify as a “younger voter”
Uh, you do know the southern-democratic party was the ‘pro-slavery’ party during the civil war, right? And the Republican party was started to counter the spread of slavery?
I wouldn’t be throwing stones about historic evil.
No shit. It’s funny how he’s behaving exactly like he accuses “Bernie bros” of acting, spewing hateful rhetoric against fellow Democrats while insisting that his own candidate, currently polling at 7%, is “blowing away the field” and running “the most amazing campaign in history”.
I’m rage quiting this thread, no need to engage.
Go Bernie.
I’m rage quiting this thread, no need to engage.
Go Bernie.
And the relevance of this to anything in the 21st century is…?
Obviously. The Democratic Party was the party of white supremacists for most of its history. Only relatively recently did the Republicans decide to take that mantle while the Democrats decided to champion civil rights.
You and me both sister. I’d high five you but I would probably just throw my back out if I did.
My take is that is that after years of trying to so very carefully consider everything she has said, with her eye on being president one day, she is enjoying just saying whatever she honestly thinks without giving a fuck, with no edit function engaged at all.
That would have been a real zinger a hundred years ago. Since then, the Party of Lincoln has become the Party of the Southern Strategy and the Party of “Very Fine People” when referring to neo-Nazis and Confederate flag wavers.
Why do Republicans (or at least Trumpists) say this? Seriously, I see it all the time.
Do any of you who say this seriously think some liberal is going to go, “hmmm. I never thought of that. I’m going to switch my party registration first thing in the morning!”
Because that is not going to happen. Not one single, solitary Democrat will be persuaded to vote Republican (let alone for Trump), no matter how many people repeat this a million times each.
What is wrong with your reading abilities Jophiel and Saintly Loser? It may be an annoying talking point in whatever corner you hang out but it was in response to post about “historical wrongness” and specifically “nothing as bad since the Confederates”. But the Dems were exactly who extended the Confederacy’s legacy so it’s exactly on point despite your weariness.
Its projection to make the democrats look like the real racist party and make black people look like they’re too stupid to know whats good for them.
The realpolitik reality is that whatever party southern whites (as a collective group, there are obviously going to be decent individuals within the group) identify with will be the party that is hostile to democracy and human rights. When southern whites were 80% democrat, the democratic party was hostile to democracy and human rights. Now that southern whites are 80% republican, the republican party is hostile to democracy and human rights. If the parties realign, whatever party southern whites identify with will be the party that is hostile to democracy and human rights.
Its more about southern whites than it is republican vs democrat. Its a serious cultural flaw that we’ve never addressed, the legacy of slavery was never dealt with.
My reading comprehension is quite good. But thanks for asking.
This “the Democratic Party is the party of slavery” thing is practically a meme. You’ll see it, and hear it, wherever Trumpists gather.
It’s utterly meaningless. I think it’s just a way of signaling tribal identity.
And? How is this relevant?
