Hillary's running mate?

Not even close. In 1993-2001, William Jefferson Clinton was President. Possibly starting in 2017, Hillary Rodham Clinton will be President. They are two separate people. Hillary was not a member of Bill’s administration, and should Hillary be elected, Bill will not be a member of her administration. You would be on much firmer ground arguing that, say, Bush and Cheney were co-presidents.

But why not? I could see Bill Clinton as Sec of State.

Not gonna happen in a Hillary Clinton Administration: 5 U.S. Code § 3110 - Employment of relatives; restrictions | U.S. Code | US Law | LII / Legal Information Institute

I see that became law in 1967. It must have been a reaction to Kennedy appointing his brother as Attorney General.

That’s interesting. I could have sworn that there was a lot of speculation back in 2008 about Bill possibly serving in a HRC cabinet.

I guess that also means the in House of Cards…

Frank wouldn’t have been legally permitted to appoint Clare Ambassador to the U.N…

Bush 41 was the second sitting Vice-President elected President since the passage of the 12th Amendment. The other one was Martin Van Buren.

Choosing a Veep candidate with an eye to grooming him to be the successor in eight years has never been a big part of the choice of a running mate.

No, but I still maintain it’s useful to have a logical successor, even if it won’t be in eight years. Al Gore could probably be President if he wanted to, and Joe Biden could very well win if Clinton stumbles. Cheney was obviously chosen for different reasons and Quayle, well, he’s still gaining acceptance.

He left office on January 20, 1993. Should be any day now!

I don’t know, I think that a dynamic younger woman might be a good choice. The pitiful state of the Republican roster makes me think maybe she could win some support there. Rile up the right, they’ll let their misogynist freak flag fly, all to Hillary’s gain. She could just sit back and watch them undo themselves!

IANAL, but doesn’t that just prohibit Bill Clinton from drawing a salary during his wife’s administration (ie he can still serve as Secretary of State without being paid). Granted even if I’m right I don’t see HRC appointing her husband to Cabinet.

“[N]ot entitled to pay” is indeed the penalty under Section ©. But Section (b) flatly states, “A public official may not appoint… any individual who is a relative of the public official.” He could not lawfully hold the office, even if he were to waive his salary.

Why not? Obama picked another man!

Of course it can be another woman. Maybe a “WoC.”

Meh. I think she should look outside the family (and the Family) and choose noted race scholar C. Julius Rock III.

Unless she’s planning to die in her first term, I’d prefer she not do that. Brown should be at the top of the ticket, or stay in the Senate where he can be his own man.

Wow, there are two of them, I didn’t even know.

Not sure who’d I want on the top of the ticket but pretty sure I want a deeper bench than we’ve got now. I’d want to have to choose between a few decent choices in a real primary season.

Don’t be silly.

A Canadian woman wouldn’t be eligible to run.
