Do you think a lawyer should be contacted to deal with an auto. insurance company regarding being the victim of a hit & run motorist? Or is this something that the average person can handle?
I have no idea, however, I suggest some additional information may assist others in helping:
-
State/location where this happened.
-
was the responsable driver identified? were police charges made?
-
how serious (if any) were injuries? how much damage done? was this a car/car or car/bike car/pedestrian?
-
Were you wearing clean underwear (that’s for all the mothers out there)?
Decided to run this by an attorney. Motor vehicle accident on a southern California freeway. Rear-ended by large SUV which was going maybe 50+ mph who left scene of accident. No ID on plate, etc. Possible whiplash type injuries. Current pain on sides of neck & shoulder area. Seeing doc on Mon. unless more severe pain. The uninsured motorist part of the policy covers hit & run incidents for human bodily injury. The collision part covers body damage to vehicle. Hoping the insurance company can check body shops for the culprit, but that’s probably wishful thinking. Losing more faith in humanity. … But just happy to be alive.
All clothes were clean!
Get thee to a lawyer. The lawyer can help you get the greatest pay-out from your own insurer, including possible statutory accident benefits. At least find out what your rights are and what you have to do to protect your rights. Don’t assume that your insurer is your friend. AAAL.
I think there’s very little point to a lawyer til you ID the jerk.
Check with your own insurance company. Perhaps they have some communucations links with body shops to send out notices.
Especially, keep after the cops. I assume this was all reported to them? They can at least tell you where they looked or asked.
