I’ve never heard of the venereal disease law. Though purposefully lying like this about being HIV-positive, IMHO, should be punishable.
I vaguely recall a case a while back about an HIV infected guy who deliberately had unprotected sex with a number of women for the purpose of infecting them, and was charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
Cue lots of “penis/weapon” jokes.

As far as I know, it’s a crime everywhere to knowingly infect someone with HIV. And I believe if the infected dies before you do, you can even be charged with murder.
Of course, the key is in the intent. If you didn’t intend to infect someone (i.e., wearing a condom) I don’t think anything can be done.
