I glimpsed part of an episode of UK ‘Survivor’ this evening. Putting aside everything else about the show (and why not !), I was amazed at the performance of two of the people during a challenge.
The idea was that all the contestants had to stand on a log (a little out to sea from their tropical Island) for as long as possible. The last-but-one finally gave up after 22 hours and 58 minutes.
I’m curious as to whether a similar challenge has been issued in the US version and what kind of endurance the contestants showed cos this seems pretty bloody nuts to me ?
Incidentally, the guy who dropped out / fell orf third from last (after 20 ish hours) later said he hadn’t had a dump for eight days – he seemed to be standing on two logs, not entirely comfortably. What on earth are these people on ??
They had challenges like that in both US versions so far. In the first season, they had to balance on a board that got more narrow as time passed (that is, they were standing on five or so boards tied together, then a board was removed every half hour or so.) That one lasted almost four hours, as I remember it.
In season 2, they had to stand on an upright log in the water. That one lasted (IIRC) a little over ten hours. I may be wrong, and I am sure someone will correct me if I am.
The log standing in Survivor II may have lasted a lot longer had Keith not asked Tina to let him have it and she unselfishly jumped in. They both looked like they could have continued for a few more hours.
I didn’t know there was an English version of the show. Where are they stranded?
UK season one is on Pulau Tiga, site of US season one.

Correction: she wisely jumped in. Nothing unselfish about it. Keith wasn’t popular even on his own team, and the tension between him and Jerri was picked up by the other tribe. Keith’s determination to win this only confirmed the other tribe’s suspicion that he was vulnerable by having previous votes cast against him. Had Tina won this immunity challenge, the other tribe would have voted for Keith, meaning a tie vote with Jeff. Keith would have been gone in the tiebreaker, and his whole tribe, including Tina, would have been picked off one by one.
On top of all that, Keith now owed her. Pretty smooth move by Tina.
Ummm, I was. . . uhhh. . . I was thinking that. . . . uh. . . YEAH, I bet standing there all those hours. . . ummmm . . . made his legs feel like two logs. Yeah, that’s it. Two logs.
