I sure as heck do. The reek of all those perfumes and various chemicals make me gag. My body instinctively knows it’s being exposed to some nasty stuff and makes no bones about it. I personally try to minimize the amount of such chemicals in my home. I also view perfumed goods as having just one more unecessary compound in them. I view them much the same way as printed paper towels and colored toilet paper. Who needs that dye in their product and why send just that much more crap into the environment for no good reason? It seems especially dim to expose your genital area to the dyes in colored toilet paper. I firmly believe that you reduce your cancer risk by eliminating the maximum number of these superfluous chemicals from your lifestyle.
So, anybody else here want to hurl when they walk down the detergent aisle at the supermarket?
Agreed. Artificial scents are nasty. I use unscented-everything-I-can and I think this makes me more sensitive to smells. From this I suspect that people who use lots of scented products are less sensitive to smells, and may risk wearing too much scent for poor sensitive people like me.
A comment re: coloured TP, though: I don’t know if it’s any worse than using bleached white TP (or any other bleached products). Why bleach? What’s wrong with beige-brown toilet paper?
I don’t mind the supermarket row of detergents…it smells kinda good. It’s just that I don’t like when I get the products home.
Did you see they have a new scented toilt paper roll? This way the scent stays off the toilet paper but refreshes your air!
wow…must have bad smell, I don’t notice any particular smell at all in the detergent aisle.
department store’s Lawn and Garden section, OTOH, makes me want to hold my breath. Residue of random synthetic hydrocarbons can’t be beneficial ::::insert “mr ick” smiley here::::
Since I started making my own soap I have more then enough “mistakes” to grate up for the laundry. I haven’t bought detergent in years and now the smell is overpowering to me. It’s so bad that when people in the neighborhood do their laundry I have to close all the windows. How much detergent are they using anyway?!?!
Ugh, I hate that aisle - the smell is so strong because there’s always broken or leaky containers all over the place. Which I usually choose, and thus end up with Cheer or Dawn all over the rest of my groceries when they’re bagged up. I swear, sometimes I think they re-stock that aisle by opening a hole in the roof and dropping the detergents from 100 feet up.
Good call, Ludovic! The pesticide aisle is actually even more revolting than the detergent row. Something about those VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) burns out the filament in my olfactory bulb.
Heh, I absolutely love the detergent aisle. I also always loved going to the laundromat, mmm, fabric softener smell is beautiful. I also love the smell of bleach.
I used to love the smell of detergent, but it seems now that all the manufacturers are moving towards fruity, flowery scents which just smell sickly and artificial to me. Ecover is a good brand if you can get it - many healthfood stores carry it - because it has a natural lavender scent. VERY nice, and not at all cloying.
Regarding toilet paper, I too can only use the white variety. Coloured paper invariably leaves my bumhole feeling like it has been sanded down and splashed with vinegar, which I can only assume is due to the dyes it contains.
I’m glad to know I’m not alone! I can’t STAND the smell of that aisle. But it’s because they put all those air freshener sprays and candles and what-not in the same aisle as the detergents, so I’m always overwhelmed and either hold my breath or tell my mom I’ll meet her in another aisle.
BEST PERFUME BRAND EVARRRR. I mean, they make a scent called Laundromat. These scents are so realistic, it’s awesome. I own Sugar Cane, Sugar Cookie, and Dulce de Leche. I see there’s a new one called Golden Delicious, I might have to order that!
