I’m gonna vent a little about something that shouldn’t bother me, but it does. At work, I’ve got access to a chat room sort of thing on our classified network. There are rooms for specific topics, plus an unclassified talk room, which is where I hang. While social, it’s also a good way to network, and I’ve made some IRL friends thru it.
Anyway, there’s a woman who posts there who has Lyme disease. I know it’s a horrible disease and she’s going to have a tough life dealing with it. However, she has to bring it up ALL.THE.TIME!! If we talk about food, she’s got to list the things she can’t eat because of Lyme. If we talk about activities, she lists the things she can’t do. And heaven help you if you mention you’re not feeling well… I’m not without sympathy, but geez Louise, we get it - you have Lyme’s. Enough already!!!
SIL went to help daughter in her classroom so they won’t be home for dinner. Which is fine, since **FCD **and I had a good lunch and don’t want dinner.
**MamaTigs **- my black yard and new needles arrived today. I’m going to start a helmet liner. I found out a group at my mom’s church make these, too. Mom doesn’t knit, but she contributes to the yarn fund. She also said they make lap blankets for people in old age homes - I’m going to do that, too. I’ve got tons of miscellaneous yarn bits that should make some interesting lapghans!
I recycled, Swiffered the kitchen and the bathroom, and vacuumed and shampooed my room. You’d think I was a (dog)butler or something. Italian style meatloaf is in the oven.
taxi, prednisone did that to me, too. Didn’t bother the beagle, though(Thread topic: drugs you and a pet have both taken).
taxi, please do. And share the results. Incidentally, have you decided on names for the little furrballs yet?
It took me all damn day, but I was finally able to recover everything I lost in that corrupted file. I then saved backup of the fixed file on my C: drive, my D: drive, my network drive AND my flash drive. Just in case the flash drive decides it’s still angry with me for any reason, and possibly is persuasive enough to convince one of the other drives to join its mutiny.
The Boy is out at some networking thingumabob, so I’m going to reheat some meatloaf and watch all the bad TV shows that make him roll his eyes when he’s here. Hurray!
Heh. Funny thread idea, doggio. Glad you’re getting a day off.
Sorry about S’TygerDad’s and ShelliBrother’s layoffs. Good thoughts for stability for everyone else.
Has anyone heard from SO? I’m hoping he didn’t get called up (he’s in the Israeli reserves, for those of you who don’t know; I have no idea what the chances are that he’d be deployed, though.) It looks like he hasn’t posted since the 1st. Guess I’ll send him an e-mail…
I LOVE having my laptop back again. It’s so nice to be able to sit on the couch or sit in bed and surf or type or watch a movie or whatever.
And it seems to be working quite well, which is nice. Except for the part where Windoze took over and made an update (after I’d told it to wait!!!) and restarted the machine. I was afraid I’d lose my post and the recipe I was editing on the blog, but Firefox held on to the info. I love Firefox, BTW.
I’ve had a couple of (very small) spinach calzones and am considering what else to eat. Maybe part of a grapefruit.
Off to get some stuff done (I need to load iTunes back onto the laptop, for one thing).
that’s better than smelling like fuel oil - which is what my garage smelled like when I got home this evening. Fortunately, it was only the pump (on the burner) that needed replacing, and I have a contract, so no out of pocket costs. And, the dispatcher gave me a three hour window - 7pm to 10pm - I asked that they aim for the earlier part, because if they don’t come until 10, I could be waiting until past midnight for them to finish fixing whatever had to be fixed - BUT - the guy should up at 6:15! and was done by 7:30. so yay.
I’ve finally finished signing up for classes for the semester beginning in 12 days. Two classes MW, beginning at 4, and four classes TR, starting at 9:30 and then, after a break, going from 12:30 to 4:45. As for the classes themselves, I’m taking Readings in Latin Literature, Choir, Research Methods (Poli Sci), Interest Groups, History of the English Language, and Modern Linguistics. And I’m taking as many classes in my major as I am in an area in which I’m not majoring, do not intend to major, and frankly have no desire to obtain any degree.
For those who are concerned, I present: Sayings of the Jewish Buddhist

[li]If there is no self, whose arthritis is this?[/li]
[li]Be here now. Be someplace else later. Is that so complicated?[/li]
[li]Drink tea and nourish life; with the first sip, joy; with the second sip, satisfaction; with the third sip, peace; with the fourth, a Danish.[/li]
[li]Wherever you go, there you are. Your luggage is another story.[/li]
[li]Accept misfortune as a blessing. Do not wish for perfect health, or a life without problems; what would you talk about?[/li]
[li]The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single Oy.[/li]
[li]There is no escaping karma. In a previous life, you never called, you never wrote, you never visited. And whose fault was that?[/li]
[li]Zen is not easy. It takes effort to attain nothingness. And then what do you have? Bupkis.[/li]
[li]The Tao does not speak. The Tao does not blame. The Tao does not take sides. The Tao has no expectations. The Tao demands nothing of others. The Tao is not Jewish.[/li]
[li]Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out. Forget this, and attaining Enlightenment will be the least of your problems.[/li]
[li]Let your mind be as a floating cloud. Let your stillness be as a wooded glen. And sit up straight. You’ll never meet the Buddha with such rounded shoulders.[/li]
[li]Deep inside you are ten thousand flowers. Each flower blossoms ten thousand times. Each blossom has ten thousand petals. [/li]
[li]The Torah says, Love your neighbor as yourself. The Buddha says, “There is no self.” So, maybe we’re off the hook.[/li][/ul]
gt, I was just wondering about Lunch the other day too. Hopefully it’s just that he’s been really busy with work lately… from what I’d heard, they hadn’t gotten to the point of calling in any reserve troops, just based on the chatter among our Israeli contractors.
Yay on the swiftly fixed burner, rosie! And double yay on it being covered by your contract.
Time for bed, methinks. They’re calling for -12C tomorrow… ick.
He was going to be in Poland this week. Also, since he’s an intel analyst, I think he’s less likely to have to go where bullets fly than other folks, if he had happened to be called in (which I imagine can’t be done along the lines of ringing someone up at 7am saying “hey dude, we have two guys down with the flu, you have to be at the northern front at 8am”).
Back to reading.
Having read some more, what’s bupkis? No I don’t want to check a dictionary, you guys explain those things a lot better.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up, caffienated, purtified, here.
Last night we celebrated JoeDawg’s Daddy’s bday. JoeDawg once again managed to go shoppin’ for a bday card and bottle of wine for his daddy. He does this every year. The card and wine mysteriously appear on the kitchen table. How JoeDawg manages this, we’ll never know.
Yays, boos, hugs, trouts, etc as needed.
I’m leavin’ out now to go meet ol’ y’all know who for brekkies at IHOP. YUM!
Bupkis means nothing. Not it doesn’t mean anything, it’s just another word for nothing. Idon’t think it’s Yiddish, I know it’s not Hebrew, it’s just one of those words Jews (and folks from NYC and Florida) know.
