Holidays Schmolidays, November's Hot Garbage (mini-rant thread)

You know, I might have made the same bailout decision in this particular case. Weed charges are bullshit. In context of her position, yes she shouldn’t have had any on her ever because cops are going to treat her with prejudice, but at the same time weed should be effing legal and - bullshit.

But, weed or not next time, this is the last time and you have to mean it. Which you already know.

I can’t say how happy I am my step sister decided to just bail the state and become estranged so we don’t have to deal with her on the regular. Dad’s heart is broken but at least it’s not bleeding all the time.

What kills me about having a misspelled/mispronounced surname is that I married a woman with a short easy name. So I volunteered to change my last name to hers.

What a blow for feminism! What a great guy! Secure in his… what’s that, dear? You’ve suddenly decided you’re tired of your family name?

… and so, my plans for being a newsreader were crushed.

(Seriously, back when I thought I’d get to change it, friends would say “perfect TV journalist name!”) (Think “Live from Washington, this is Darren Daniels, CBS News.”)

Yeah, if it had been any other charge, I would have let her sit. We’re more than even on that count now. While I still love my sister, I can’t fix her problems for her anymore.

I can’t say that I’m happy that I have a harder heart than my mother, but I am happy that it’s harder for my sister to drag me into her problems than it was for her to do the same to my mom.
Thanks for reading all of that.

How did the mini-rants thread fall off the first page?

Two completely minor grocery-shopping first world problem rants:

Sunday before Thanksgiving and the grocery store has one checkout lane open. One. Even the express lane was closed. This particular store has yet to install U-Scan lanes, not that I like to use them but in this case I might have. The line stretched halfway to the back of the store before the manager came up and opened a second lane. Then there was the mad dash when everyone decides at once to try to cram into the newly opened second lane.

Why is it so hard to find frozen sausage and cheese breakfast sandwiches that don’t have egg on them? I can’t stand eggs and it seems like every sausage and cheese sandwich in the freezer case has eggs. The sandwiches that don’t have eggs also don’t have cheese. I know, I can always add my own cheese… It’s just the idea, dammit.

Grrr. Why does taking a bath make me so damn itchy? I thought maybe dry skin or something , so i try bath oil. Nope. A few seconds under water and I’m clawing at my legs. I thought maybe I’m allergic to something. Try an antihistamine. Nope. Tub is clean. And slippery now so I’ll have to clean it again. If i wash dishes my hands and forearms get itchy.

Have you changed soap recently? If not, has the soap maker changed the ingredients? Maybe try a different soap?

Does it only happen at home? If it happens every time you wash your hands no matter where you are, you might just be allergic to a common soap ingredient and might want to look soap made from different ingredients.

I use goat milk soap, it seems to be wonderful for my skin but it doesn’t lather up very well. I have been told that camel milk soap is the absolute best ever, but not knowing anyone stupid enough to own milk camels I probably will never find out for myself.

Someone else is on holiday from work next week, so I’m covering for her, and doing 7 days straight. To make up for this, I then get 4 days off the following week.

The boss today me today that to make up for the inconvenience of the 7-day stint, I can pick which days I want off.

Oh, but he does need me in on Monday.

And Wednesday :dubious:

And Sunday

Why is it impossible to find frozen breakfasts that don’t have cheese in them?

This. In fact, why is it also impossible to find *fresh *breakfasts at the convenience store or Dunkin Donuts or Burger King or McDonald’s that don’t have cheese on them? Or worse, scrambled into the eggs so you can’t get them without cheese by saying, ‘no cheese’.

Seconding this!!! I wasn’t allowed to use any bubble bath or shower gel products when I was growing up because of a nasty reaction I had to a single bubble bath product that was supposedly meant for kids. Sometimes it’s the chemicals a particular manufacturer uses for fragrance (I think I remember people having some issues a few years ago with a baby bath product that used a lavender fragrance that turned out to be especially harsh), and other times the detergents are just too harsh.

I’m allergic to Mr Bubble and Lever 2000. Those give me full body hives. Some other soaps may give me a rashy spot here or there. Never figured out what the ingredient is that causes the problem. Ever since I switched to more natural and non-tallow based soaps, never an issue.

Dr. Bronzer’ Peppermint Oil soap FTW.

I haven’t changed soap or anything, and the itching starts before any soap is used. It’s maddening.

raventhief, is your water softened? If so, have you recently changed salt brands? Another possibility is that something in your water composition has changed, either because your local water treatment facility has changed its process, or, if you’re on well water, maybe some local farmer’s pesticide or herbicide has seeped in. It might be a good idea to take a sample and have it tested.

I’m having itchy legs later in the season than usual, due to the warm weather we had in Oct/first half of Nov.

Mine doesn’t itch when dry, but get my legs wet and aaaaaargh – seems to be a response to allergens in the air. Something that gets killed off by the first hard frost.

I was going to say the manufacturer could’ve changed their ingredients, but you mean just the water running on your skin makes it itch?

Mostly its being submerged in water, just water. I dont itch for long if I’m in the shower - maybe the moving water does something differently. But if I run a tub of plain water, and get in, in less than a minute I am clawing at the skin that has been underwater. And the itchiness lasts 45 minutes or so (after getting out). Mostly legs and forearms/hands. Washing dishes does the same thing, but really only on hands (because my legs don’t get wet, natch) and its maddening.

Part of the weirdness of being me, maybe? It’s new and maybe there is something to allergen thing digs mentioned.

We have town water, so it’s possible that the water treatment facility changed something.

It seems to me that if you use a “free” service offered by a store you should purchase something from said store. for example, if you use the restroom at a convenience store, you should make an effort to purchase something from the store for the use of their free facilities. If you sit at Starbucks and use their chairs and free wifi, you should buy something. A not bring in drinks from outside to sit and use their free tables and free wifi.

It bugs me to see people studying at Starbucks with their McDonalds coffee cup and sandwich wrapper. I have never seen anyone at Starbucks say anything even when they leave the outside trash all over the tables for the Starbucks employees to clean up. smh.

I’m kind of “meh” about the restroom thing, but sitting in Starbucks with outside food and not buying anything? That takes some large, entitled balls.
