I’m not sure I’d appreciate it - the car (or at least the car in the trailer) identifies them as state police, but the premise in the original film is that the state trooper station was closing. At the end, the characters had joined the Spurbury Police Department, replacing the corrupt rival cops who were presumably all in jail by then.
Comedy’s fine, but let’s not jettison consistency.
Finally saw it last night. Not as good as the first, unsurprisingly, but still fun! Some standout moments:
The dream sequence on the band’s tour bus. The captain’s largest-permissible-mustache cutout. Jim Gaffigan is again stopped for a traffic violation. The rude Canadian townspeople in the public meeting. The pileup in the strip club. Farva ordering all those drinks at one time to get his free pastry. Thorny under the influence of Canadian women’s sex pills. Farva shooting down the bald eagle. Fred Savage and the cat rescue.
If you liked the first one, you should see the second.
Rob Lowe was on top form in this. It wasn’t quite up to the original’s standard… or maybe it was, just not up to the abovementioned first ten minutes of the original. But what could be?
