Holy Crap! Whats Up with AMC??

They must have showed John Wayne’s 'THE GREEN BERETS" a few HUNDRED times so far (this month). What’s the problem? have they run out of movies?
I used to love AMC-it had no commercials, and showed classic movies. Now its freakin awful!

Didn’t you know? It’s been at least five years since AMC started its steady decline as a network.

Will somebody please post the links to all the previous SDMB threads on this subject? I don’t have time to do it.

Well, five hundred films they did assay.

But only had the fee for The Green Berets.

Yea, I realize that AMC has really gone downhill-but why the continuous screening of these turd films? The other night they had nothing but old Claude Van Damme flicks on-which everybody has seen a jillion times.
As I say, I could take a few commercials…but not this constant recycling of movie crap.

AMC has been brain dead for several years. Turner Classic Movies rocks. (At least what they say; I can’t get it.)

I gave up on them immediately after their change of ownership/vision whichever it was. I wrote them a letter telling them so and except for the occaisional Saturday Western that I don’t have I don’t even check to see what they’re showing. Before the switch, I’d usually check there first if I were looking for a movie to watch.
Someone needs to buy them a vowel.

AMC is the biggest piece of shit cable station there is. What makes it even worse is they used to be damn close to TCM. How the fuck can you claim to be “TV for movie people” when you edit for content and show commercials for Chrissakes? And some the upcoming “classics” this month are:

Godfather 3
Halloween 5
Caveman’s Valentine
When a Man Loves a Woman
Two Weeks Notice.

AMC can’t hold TCM’s jock. There could be a movie that I have been dying to see for years, if AMC was showing it I would not watch. Do they not know that real film fans will NOT watch edited movies, or movies with commercials, let alone both? Don’t get me started on AMC.

Did NOT mean to restart a year old thread, but I got carried away…

I don’t want to continue this zombie thread too long, but it has to be said:

When AMC made the change to show crap films, its ratings went up. Simple as that. More people like modern crap films in color than do older good films in b&w.

It will just get worse in the future.

I was told that another factor in AMC’s decline was the explosion of cable channels. The corporations that used to be happy to get a few bucks out of AMC licensing them to show their old movies now have channels of their own.

AMC is showing **Hu$tle **, so they aren’t all crap.

But I don’t watch them otherwise. OTOH, I’ll tune in to TCM whenever I have a free moment.

AMC was never the best movie channel but it was a good outlet for some older things that for whatever reason TCM hadn’t hoovered up yet. 20th Century Fox movies seemed to be the staple. Of course now Fox has its own movie channel. AMC was always a reliable source for my The Prince and the Showgirl fix, since they seemed to show it about every three days.

AMC is now only good for the occasional series or special but is absolutely useless for movies. I still recall with bitterness my notice of the start of AMC’s total corruption. Watching Fright Night, they blanked out the word “shit.” That was the first content edit I noted, before they were actually interrupting the movies for commercials. Editing for content was enough to put me off AMC for movies but commercial interruptions are simply intolerable.

People are fucking stupid.

Next week on AMC, the Pauley Shore & Rob Schneider film festival!
