Relax, muad.
I’m pretty sure it is just you that is dying!
Hope that makes you feel better!
It’s not the waiting so much as the up-down-up-down. The boards go down? Irritating, but fine. The boards go down, I log back in, start reading again, then it Cannot find server, then they’re fine again, then there’s a Database error…etc. etc. That’s annoying.
The Gods only allow us a set number of words per cycle.
I’m waiting for the world change, then I’ll post again.
I hope they’re not dying…I’m too new here, and think this is the best message board ever created. I’d hate to think I’m missing out. . .I suppose I could start my own thread(s). . .but that would mean having something interesting to say or ask, which I don’t ever think I have.

I think we’ve become like an old married couple. We’ve just run out of things to say to each other. No seriously, I agree that it’s partially the way the boards are behaving lately. Sometimes I just give up and go back to work.
As a newbie, I find it hard to get into because the pages take so long to load. Not complaining, just explaining.
We’re not allowed to discuss the reasons for those who have suffered the wrath of the mods and gotten the axe, but the place seems to suffer in the absence of folks like Zenster (who I wish would ask to come back).
I betcha this is it as much as anything else.
Not to worry, Stover. We’ve had many slumps before, and recovered just fine. I’m sure you’ve heard mention of The Winter of Our Missed Content, when the boards didn’t work at all for several months. We had a temporary board, which was a good stopgap, but it took quite a while to get back in the rhythm of things after that.
But you’re quite right–this is the best board EVAH!
Eh, I was thinking sort of along these lines, too, but I didn’t know how to say it. I guess those of us who have been here for a while aren’t too motivated to participate in the umpteenth underwear thread in IMHO. Which is not to say that there aren’t tons of really fresh and interesting topics all over this board. But sometimes, I do open a forum and it looks like the same old same old.
I guess I should make more of an effort to start potentially interesting threads. I do get some good ideas sometimes, but it takes me forever to write an OP, so I don’t usually get around to doing it.
In addition to the board upgrades, it appears that quite a few of our most frequent posters haven’t been posting in the last few days.
lieu, you’ll take the wind out of your shorts at the drop of a hat.
Sorry, it’s my fault. I’ve been offline for a week or so. But I’m back now, so things will pick up again.
You have stolen my line there! No, really, I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted regularly, but I’ve had a lot going on, and…
Seriously, though: it does seem as if there’s an echo resounding throughout the board - I hope everyone comes back, as there are many posters I revere, who haven’t posted lately.
For me it’s the load time, not the vanishing posts, that’s the problem. Any time I try to log on before 8:00 in the evening, Pacific time, my connection times out before the boards load.
Second (or third, or whichever) on the whole Database error thing. There’s no telling how long I can stick around before the database apparently goes buggy on me, so that just stops me from surfing it as much. I think once all the kinks are ironed out of the new look things will pick up.
I called up the DSMB, logged on and got a confirmation that I had. Then I took a transcript of the Russert-GW Bush interview from the Los Angeles Times compose a rather length critique. When I tried to preview I got the “you are not loggen on” message. To HELL with it.
I can’t think of anything to say that’s at least 10 characters.
Ignore previous sentence.
I’m not posting names, but a number of the old-timers have confessed that they are abandoning the SDMB in favor of LiveJournal. Mostly for the reasons Green Bean mentioned, along with the inconsistency caused by the upgrades.
I considered writing an homage to the classic slashdot troll but I lack the time, inclination, and desire to risk bannination. If anybody’s interested, you can perform the mental substitutions yourself
