Holy S**T....I found a grey hair.

My grandmother went white early. I’m anticipating the same; I’ve already found white hairs in my bangs and my eyelashes.

Actually, I’m looking forward to it; my hair is the most boring color imaginable and I’m just not into the dyeing thing, so I’m anticipating a head o’ white hair. Better than dishwater brown (my stylist says its an “ashey-brown”. Feh.)

I’ve been getting grey hairs since I was 20 or so (I’m 26 now). When I get them, I make my husband pluck them for me. When there gets to be too many, I may just let it go. Then again, I’m somewhat vain about stuff like that, so I would probably dye it. My mom just turned 48, and just started getting a little white a couple years ago (she’s a strawberry blonde). Same with my dad, and he has the same hair color as me. Go figure. Maybe it skips a generation.

Found my first grey when I was 23 (both mom & dad started to grey in their early 20’s, so it was destined to be), but Miss Clairol has been a good friend of mine, and will be until I’m nearly white (which I think is actually a rather nice look).

BTW, I’m turning 30 in October, and I don’t feel that aging angst… the ticking of the biological clock, now, that’s what I feel…

My mother had a full head of salt and pepper hair before I was born. Gray hair is not the end of the world. Now when mine started coming in in my late twenties, she tried to tell me how lucky I am to have her pretty silver hair genes. She is always complimented about her pretty silver hair. When she first started turning gray, people used to ask her where she got her hair frosted because it was the prettiest frosting they had ever seen. (Well, that was probably really great for the 60’s, Mom, but people don’t frost their hair anymore.)

Now I didn’t have much of a problem with mine at 30, really. But I’m about to turn 35 this year and I’ve decided that is really not very old and I don’t want the gray hair. Especially since it’s coming in two streaks on each side of my head. My hubby says he thinks it’s hot because Yvonne Decarlo always turned him on, but I just can’t handle it. Besides, I used to wear my hair various shades of light brown and blonde (instead of my natural dark brown) in high school and I kind of miss that so I’ve decided that it is time for hair dye. I tried that Nutrisse with the fruit oil conditioners. It really did leave my hair softer than it was before. I’m pleased with the shade too, not too red even though I have LOTS of red highlights in my hair. I believe I will continue with that option for at least a few more years.

As for people laughing at you, it’s like when grown-ups laugh at whatever the crisis of the moment is for teenagers. We know it will pass, so it’s funny. Sorry.
