My brother had quite a deal going with my parents when he was a freshman or sophomore in high school. If he supplied them with pot, they’d buy him alcohol.
I never got into any of it. You can read about my one disasterous forray into the drugs here, if you’d like.
Dude, if you consider yourself intelligent, yet you take pot to work, you have another think coming.
I don’t have any issue with people that happen to smoke weed. It mostly raises two points with me:
1: Why?
2: Hey, YOU’RE INHALING SMOKE! Stop telling me about how safe marijuana is for second (cause I know, believe me) and think about it: YOU ARE INHALING SMOKE (THAT IS, LITTLE BITS OF BURNED STUFF) INTO YOUR LUNGS.
I had a friend… No really, I had a friend who was the dealer for his high school. And it was a music and theater based high school, so he did a bustling trade. His parents were ex-hippies. He bought 5 pounds of pot, divided it, and sold it. When he was dividing it, he found that the dealer gave him a little freebie: a small quantity of cocaine. Well, he didn’t use cocaine and didn’t want to get into selling it, and he didn’t want to flush it cause it was worth about $100 (IIRC). The five pounds of pot were sold with ease.
And guess what happened: thats when his parents found his stash – a few pipes and a packet of cocaine. Remember, these were ex-stoners. They, as you can imagine, went beserk.
Now he was faced with explaining to his parents how he got the cocaine. So, he started his story “Mom, Dad, I bought five pounds of pot…” Needless to say, he had to stop dealing at that point. Oh, and flush the cocaine.
Huh? What’s the problem? I never said it was a damn bowl of wheat bran! I’m well aware of the danger that smoking anything entails. Then again, I’m not smoking 20 or 40 joints a day, like someone would do with cigarettes. The only studies that have “proven” marijuana causes cancer were made up almost entirely of people who smoked both pot and cigarettes. It’s impossible to tell which substance caused the cancer. Of course, that doesn’t mean that pot can’t cause cancer, just that it’s never been proven.
And why do I take pot to work? Why the hell not? I study stoned all the time, remember the material, and score high on the tests. I work stoned all the time, yet rarely make mistakes. It doesn’t make me a zombie. It doesn’t stop my brain or warp it beyond comprehension, but rather just relaxes me. I love to read a good novel stoned. Really, I love to do all of the same things I love to do sober. What’s the problem?
Look, I wasn’t talking about the dangers of being stoned on the job. I was thinking more about legal implications. Perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised that you missed that point .
As for problems, there isn’t one. Smoke all the pot you want, I don’t care. I KNOW it’s safer than alcohol. I KNOW it’s safer than cigarettes. See, safety is a relative measure - you are still inhaling smoke! That’s not really my bag, you know?
Mostly I’m just sick of hearing people talk about others finding their stash, or about how pot will save the world. Fortunately, there are far less members of the latter camp than there used to be. Really, I wish they would just go and legalize it; it would save me a load of aggravation. It’s not cause I want to smoke it, it’s cause I want to stop hearing from people that do.
ThatGuyWithPants Where can i contact this “Wise People of the World” committee? Are you sure they have a no pot policy? Are you sure they’re having a great time? They seem pretty uptight. I mean, jeez, what’s their other rules? No sex? No booze? Not for me to ask i suppose.
On a more serious note, I don’t get what the big deal is either. I remember back a few years, I had this preconceived idea that all drugs are bad and turn you into evil zombies that’ll do anything for that next hit. But I have now washed away those misconceptions with information.
I only started smoking pot when i did all the research i could possibly do about the long and short term risks in terms of both the law and my health. In the end, i decided it wasn’t as bad is a lot of people make it out to be. I mean, in Holland it’s practically legal, and Canada and Neveda seem to be considering it. It’s legality is the only thing that really bothers me about it. Which seems pretty silly, and in fact, some people have this little theory about DuPont and the newspaper rivalries with hemp paper and blah blah blah causing the whole hysteria in the first place. I don’t know if i believe that or not, but it’s quite plausible IMHO.
And for those of you who refuse to try pot, i say try it when it becomes legal, which i believe will happen within my lifetime. You might like it.
Pot? Blech. I say if you’re gonna do a drug, do a real drug. I don’t anymore, but if for some reason I decided to start again I wouldn’t go for that crap.
All it does (to me and everyone I’ve ever been around when they used it) is turn you in to an idiot… a laughing idiot, an irritable idiot, or just a total moron (I mean while you’re high, not permanently, although people who smoke a lot often show signs). The problem is, it doesn’t make me any less self-conscious, so I act like an idiot and feel like one too. No fun.
Morning Glory seeds. Robitussin. They are your friends (sort of).
Should you decide to try em, be sure to educate yourself A LOT first and be very careful. Always experiment with psychedelics in low doses first, some people don’t interface very well with them. Break on through to the other side! Shoot me an email at kaffeine_krazy@yahoo.com or AIM me at SaveTheNails2001 . I’d be glad to offer what advice I can, in the interest of public safety .
I wouldn’t bet on your folks being as ignorant as you my think they are. Perhaps they are just waiting to see how you deal with them knowing about the cheba. If I were you I’d take a lot of these guys advice and find a better stash. I used a empty film roll container when I was in high school, and kept it in with my camera. Just don’t go walking around with it in your pocket. Watch cops and you’ll see why. Simple possession is a felony in the feds eyes. Just think about what you are doing and how the decisions you make will affect you in say two years.
Moderator’s Notes: I think this has gone just about far enough. We’re moving farther and farther away from a discussion of use to a course in how-to. And that’s where we try to draw the line. Thread closed.
