Holy shit! A truck carrying cars just crashed into the restaurant next door!

I work in the office building next door to a restaurant. Our windows were open because it’s nice. We didn’t see the crash, but we sure as hell heard it. If there are no dead people inside, it’s a miracle. Ambulances, cops, fire trucks, everything is outside. The truck was coming down a steep hill and now it’s buried in the building. A passersby said it looked like he lost brakes, but he may have passed out.

I just walked outside to look and my hands are shaking. Never been this close to a legitimate tragedy before. If he’d crashed into my building, I’d be a fuckin’ grease spot right now. The people who were eating dinner and the waitstaff are probably fuckin’ grease spots right now. :frowning:

What city?

Sad and scary. I’m glad you’re ok, Rachel.

Ithaca, NY

It happened right before rush so I’m sure traffic’s going to be an issue. Not that that is important. I heard it was full of diners and one was a pregnant woman. I don’t know how my coworker found that out, maybe he went out and saw someone being carried out. I don’t even know how they’re going to get to the people inside because the front door, windows, and whole facade are caved in

Holy mazoley. I think that entire building is going to come down.

Good grief, what a horror.

Just hoping that those injured are going to be OK, but by the look of the scene I’m not confident.

DAMN that news cycle is fucking fast. Thanks for the link MsWhatsit. I did not want to take pictures because it seems unseemly. I am glad to know that they were able to reach the wounded quickly

You can’t see it well in that picture, but there are apartments above the truck and a whole corner of them is crumbling down. You can kinda see the rooms

Wow. I agree with MsWhatsit. The building is already leaning, once they remove the truck, I think at least part of the building will collapse.

Not a good day for big trucks plowing into eateries in NY? Even the two pictures are remarkably similar!

I could be wrong, but I think that “leaning” is an optical effect of the wide angle lens.

Or so they’d have us think. There’s no way a truck could cause that kind of damage. Obviously a controlled demolition. Wake up, sheeple!

I can’t get close now that the police tape is up, but if you zoom in you can see inside people’s apartments!

Wow, shit. Glad you are OK. I hope there aren’t any fatalities or serious injuries as a result.

Hearsay only, but my fiance’s co-worker’s father is a funeral director and said one child has died. So far.

Why the heck do they have SWAT on site?

All hands on deck?

Geez, I used to eat at Viva Taqueria near there a lot in college. I don’t see how that building isn’t coming down.

Those are dangerous hills!

According to USA Today, that’s an actual lean to the building. Also one dead, four injured.

It’s probably the only SWAT truck owned by the city, it makes sense to air it out occasionally.

SWAT teams often have training in rigging and high-rise rescue.
