A real Steeler fan checking in here, not ducking and running…
I hope you’re wrong, Max. Kordell is going back to the bench, and Cowher needs to listen to people about the horrible “prevent” defense style he gets into with any lead. It’s sometimes OK for the 4th quarter, but in the first half? Let the boys blitz!
Here’s to the Steelers running the table and crushing the hopes of those poor misguided fans from Baltimore!
I hope that they get the field mix just right. The secret weapon is not working.
PS: This is the last time I’ll put a high confidence on the Brownies. Between the Brownies and the Bungholes I missed out on moving up in the Pick’Em league toward the coveted 8th position…
Jets fan pissed off here. Tim Brown gets 1000 receptions, Big Fucking Deal! All it turned out to be was a 12 minute timeout for the Raiders. Jerry Rice didn’t get any hoopla when he got this 1000th recep. Why the hell should Brown? They could have easliy honored him after the game or before the start of their next home game. To stop play right in the middle of a drive is a disgrace to football!
The NFL gave Oakland a nice long chance to, rest, regroup, look at the Jets defensive set ups and decide on a play. Which was a touchdown. What a fucking joke. Yeah, we lost for other reasons (Morton, you moron) but Oakland should have never been allowed to stop play like that. BTW, the Jets were never told that play was going to stop when he reached his 1000th.
I have to agree with NYR407’s little rant about the stoppage in play during the Raiders-Jets match last night. It didn’t really worry me who won, but i thought the spectacle of halting the game and dragging his family out onto the field was absolutely ridiculous, and the break definitely did the Raiders more good than the Jets.
All I can say about my Titans is “Quit giving me a damned heart attack every week! There are three other quarters for you to beat the crap out of teams. Don’t wait till the fourth (or overtime even) to do it!”
I didn’t duck for cover because I’m a Steeler fan. I just hate bitching and complaining over a team that’s probably going to the playoffs… especially when there are Bengal and Cardinal fans out there that are the truly suffering.
But since you are from Western PA, and a Steeler fan, I ask you… are you a Cowher guy, or are you convinced that he will never be anything more than a Marty Shottenheimer in Black and Gold? He absolutely can’t win the big game… he coaches not to lose instead of to win. He’s blown 3 trips to the Super Bowl while having the AFC Championship at home, and he almost blew the 4th (Colts, dropped Hail Mary in end zone for Cowher’s only trip to the big dance.)
Sorry, but the guy frustrates me. He’s had some of the best talent in the NFL for a decade and he has no Lombardi’s to show for it.
No problem, Max. I misunderstood you. Sorry. Us Stiller fans need to stick together, especially here.
I agree with you on Cowher. I think it had to do with what he got when he came here- the players he had; especially the quarterbacks. Bubby Brister? Neil O’Donnell? The team was killing itself with mistakes- a good number of these by the QBs- and the team went into a mental shell of “avoiding mistakes” which translates into “conservative offense.” Now it happens anytime there is a lead. It has worked in the past, to a limited extent, but I think the first two weeks of the season showed the flaws in the conservative defense style. If it didn’t happen then, the Atlanta and Tennessee games should have been a clue.
What’s worse than a team like the Bungles? a team like the Steelers. To have a great season and lose a game that should have been won is much worse than never having been there, for a team that can get there year after year.
Hoping that history does not repeat itself for Cowher, but that history repeats like in 1974.
Pardon me, but…Oh, waah. Three of the last four. How about this: my Vikings have won three of the last twelve. I laugh at the supposed pain you’re feeling over the Broncos. You want pain? Come up to Minneapolis some time. I’ll show you pain. It happens about every other Sunday at the Metrodome. When it’s not happening there, it’s happening where ever else the Vikings happen to be playing. Goddammit.
At least we’re not the Bengals.
And yo, Ravens fans - you enjoy that Brian Billeck, ya hear? God, do I hate that man.
And yes, thanks, I am really looking forward to next week’s game against the Packers. Double goddammit.
Well, see, it’s more painful for fans of good teams when their teams start losing. It’s the whole surprise factor. I doubt Bengal fans and Viking fans were reeling with shock over the suckiness exhibited this season. (Or, if you were, you really shouldn’t have been…)
Seems like just about everyone in the national media was picking the Ravens to win 2 or 3 games tops this season–hell, much of the press even picked them to finish behind the Bengals
The Ravens have the youngest team in the NFL and lost tons of talent in the offseason due to cap hell.
The preseason prognostications didn’t even anticipate that most of the Ravens’ best veteran starters would miss this much playing time:
a. Ray Lewis, the greatest linebacker of all-time, would miss most of the season
b. Michael McCrary, one of the best pass rushers in the league, would miss most of the season
c. Chris McAllister, the Ravens’ best DB and only experienced DB starter, would miss several games
d. Brandon Stokley, the only proven WR on the roster, out for the season
The Ravens still haven’t fixed the shaky right side of the O-line, or improved at WR or QB. (just don’t have the personnel right now, the coach has to get by with what they have)
Yet the Ravens are 6-6 with a shot at the playoffs, and would win a wild card tiebreaker against anyone except Miami or Indianapolis. I doubt any other coach in the league could have done better with the same players.
Love him or hate him, Billick is the obvious choice for coach of the year at this point, if coach of the year is awarded to the coach whose team achieves the most relative to what they were expected to do. (Honorable mention to Schottenheimer and Dungy, the difference being that the expectations for their teams were considerably higher)
As a born-and-bred Falcons fan AND a UGA graduate, I am of course having an absolutely fabulous football season.
I keep waiting for the Michael Vick backlash to start, because the hagiography of St. Michael is getting WAY out of hand (I think I heard some idiot sportscaster talking Hall of Fame the other day), but when I watch the guy play I have to admit that he really does seem to live up to the hype. It’s amazing how he seemed to catch his stride (pun intended) in week 5 against the Giants; we were 1-3 before that, 7-0-1 since. Not to mention that Doug Johnson, the second-stringer, has got a damn good arm too.
Ahh, I hate to gloat… but I’m going to anyway, since Falcons fans don’t get to very often.
Sorry just couldn’t pass up a bitching thread with no Dallas fans already involved.
It’s about damn time Hutchinson was put in over a 3rd string quarterback named Carter. Who by the way is making big bucks by simply sucking ass.
And I love Emmit really I do…who doesnt. But for the the love of God give the man more than 15 carries a game. If not just put Hambrick in and be done with it.
How about an offensive line…that is truly offensive. I know ya’ll are all pretty young put do your damn job and protect the QB, and lay out some blocks for the RB.
Hopefully Jerry Jones and Jimmy Johnsons meeting went very well and we have a “new” coach next season. Hell, even if it isn’t JJ pleeeeease get a new coach. What about R.C. Slocum, another of my perrenial losers. On second thought what with Washingtons season with a former college coach. nevermind.
At least we will be in a good situation for a draft pick next season… and the season after that…and after that…and after that…
