It is colder than a witch’s left tit out and my hair is throwing a temper tantrum and there is a stain on my sweater and my pants are ripped. I didn’t get to watch Blackadder and I have to go to the eye doctor tomorrow and I forgot my binders at home and the vending machine ate my money and I read a book all about people having affairs and now I’m horribly depressed.
It is, officially, a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day today.
I’m not the one to dissuade you. I’m the one who’ll hold a seat for you on the plane.
Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the long-awaited Subaru. Her name is Polly. She looks like this. I likes her very much.
Sometime this afternoon I’m going to make me one a Guinness Stout Gingerbread Cake. Someone made one of these for the TA Appreciation party last Christmas and it was oh so yum. I haven’t been able to find her icing recipe, which also contained Tasty Guinness, but that’s okay. I prefer whipped cream.
Good afternoon everyone! Well, it’s afternoon here anyhow.
This is my first MMP.
I brought chocolate cake, it’s about an hour old, freshly frosted. From scratch cakes are the best, aren’t they? Oh, I have this milk too. I brought 2% because not everyone has the taste for the farmer’s milk.
It’s cold outside, and the house is still heating up. Jim forgot to fill the oil tank yesterday, and was shocked that we were out already. With temperatures in the single digits all weekend, I wasn’t surprised one bit.
The girls missed the bus this morning because Nikki, precious middle child that she is, took her pretty pink boots upstairs, and lost one. Despite my telling both girls that if they both went up there, they must still be up there, they still missed the bus. Luckily my sister was taking her son to school as well, and they managed to get a ride with her.
Currently I have a jar of salsa con queso on my plug in heater next to the computer, warming. Jimmy wants to touch it, and I’m afraid of it falling off the fins. I’m feeling too lazy to microwave it, though its looking like I may have no other choice, unless I want cheese all over the carpet.
I feel like putting on my fingerless gloves again, it’s not cool in here, why are my fingers freezing?
LiLi, you’re welcome on the sleepsack thing. I am planning to buy the carseat-friendly version soon (with a small vent in the rear and a double-ended zip in the front, for the crotch-belt) so you can put them in the carseat without having to remove the sleepsack!
Ooooohhhhh Spaz, NICE car! I like Subarus - they corner like they’re on rails!
Haze, don’t go to England. It’s cold and miserable and it’s full of English people (well, it used to be)!
Labelless (I think I will dub you NoTags, which will probably end up as NoStrings), welcome to the MMP. FCM will be most pleased that you brought chocolate with you, and I definitely agree that cakes made from scratch are the best! :: runs a finger through the frosting then runs before FCM comes back::
Having gotten all over my own quasi-Monday yesterday (we Middle-easterners is weird I tellz ya!), I can authoritatively tell you that tomorrow will be better
{{{Kyth}}}
**Spaz **-- It’s a lovely car! I like the color scheme, too
When are we doing the driving around the countryside thing?
And two more words. Spotted dick. (It’s alleged to be food)
I first posted to the MMP when Rue was talking about the importance of tooth care. I had just been told that I needed to have my gums sliced open and have the plaque that had metamorphisized (sp?) into some kind of jawbone-eating microorganism scrapped away. My gums are good, my teeth are good, but the jawbone was just going away.
I should have never gone to work today. The QA geek is trying to get us to unseal every single special function cable we get in from a manufacturer because 1 customer, a local shipyard not known for employing people with IQs above room temperature, complained that a cable they ordered failed their inspection (insulation resistance check.) I’ve been trying to get them to tell me how they checked it (because if this cable really did have a bad insulation resistance measurement, it would be the first one in decades of their manufacturing process, and they are very interested in getting to the bottom of it), because the information they first gave me sounded pretty hinky. And I never heard back from them on the specific questions I asked. Instead, they turned it over to their QA Dept, who contacted our QA idiot, who went to Roundboy instead of me with his questions.
Long story short (I know, too late), my blood pressure is up because no one f***ing asked me what the hell was going on with one of my customers.
And precisely whose fault is that?? For the record, I can also attest that **Rebo ** and **lieu ** are real, because I’ve met them, too. And swampy and Taters.
Home from a jaunt to Fredericksburg, just because. **FCD ** scored 3 sweaters at Kohl’s on a super clearance - all 3 with tax for $42 - yay! We also wandered aroung AC Moore’s and Best Buy, just because. On the way back, we stopped at WalMart for some dental floss and flavored waters. Now we’re home and I’m about to start dinner.
Labelless, I declare that from-scratch chocolate cake is an acceptable love offering. Welcome! LurkMeister, welcome back!
Insane day at work today. :: sticks out tongue at those of you who have today off ::
Spent the weekend painting and packing. And went to IKEA yesterday. Their cinnamon buns are AWESOME. I’m not usually a fan of cinnamon buns because I find they smell better than they taste. So why waste your money? But IKEA’s are just amazing. I highly recommend getting one if you have an IKEA anywhere near you.
Now back to the insanity that my job has become. Bleh. But at least they fed us pizza for lunch today!
And, while I’m thinking about it: we don’t have a volunteer yet for next week’s festivities.
Both the gingerbread and chocolate cakes sound yummy.
I got to watch Local Best Friend feed her baby for the first time. It didn’t really look like that much fun. But she’s very good at it now (and learned fast, just as I’m sure you will, LiLi - I think it’s a survival tactic). I think it gets easier once baby understands that food is involved.
Skip, auntie em, Baker, CelloDude, wring, Heller Highwater, MBG (and BusWife and BusKid), Haze, Sarahfeena, WhyNot, interface2x, and sugar and spice - or people admitting to names such as these - also exist. I’ve also communicated by phone with FCM, LOUNE (although I think it was just via voicemail), and thirdwarning (first person ever to text me, I think). I missed meeting rigs by this much ----><----.
Thank you, FCM! It may take me a bit to get back into the swing of things here. I see a lot of new faces, but some of the old familiar ones. There have been a few changes in my life; I took early retirement from my gummint job and moved to NC so I can afford to live on my pension. Now I spend my time catching up on my reading and all the DVDs I never had time to watch, and trying to decide what I want to do with the rest of my life.
Howdy to the new people and folks who are stoppin’ by in homage to Rue!
I’m through with work for today. Normally I’d be back for a while this evenin’ but this is my men’s night at church and I absolutely lurve goin’, so I’m goin. Ol y’all know who will be here shortly and then we’re takin’ off to go grill steaks and hang out with the guys. It’s a real informal thing but I always have a really good time. Besides, I get to spend the night during the week with ol’ y’all know who and with the new gig, that’s been a near impossible thing to do. I miss spend the night nights.
I wish I could find some of Rue’s old bedtime stories. Y’all remember Unca Rue, Story Guy? Those were some great Rued up versions of the old classics. There were a bunch of 'em in Teemings but it looks like Teemings ain’t archived anywhere anymore.
Go away, Teh Sick! Maybe it would help if we sacrificed a virgin under the full moon
I forgot about bad teeth ands stuff in the UK. You guys are probably wondering where the hell this whim came from … I was chatting with Scottish Darling this morning and felt a sudden, overpowering urge to leave Chicago and go somewhere else, combined with the feeling that I miss having a close friend around. I would love nothing more than to rent a flat with her and become crazy old cat ladies.
The only thing that’s actually stopping me from making plans is that if I want to become a US citizen eventually, I need to stay put in the US for as long as I can. I’m just starting to put roots in the ground in terms of work and such, and if I leave this year it’ll all have been for nothing.
Grr. I hate being a furriner.
I dunno how I’d feel about settling down in the UK (which is what I’d have to do if I decided to move there now - I’d have to stay there for at least a few years). It was just a passing thought, really, but I do have a somewhat reckless urge to indulge in a change of scenery. Maybe I just need a vacation. I haven’t been out of Chicago in over half a year, which for me seems like forever; I’m used to traveling a lot.
Labelless, I find myself wanting to wear gloves in my own home as well. But that’s because my apartment really is freezing.
